Stubby the War Dog: The True Story of World War I's Bravest Dog

My son is 12 and used this as research for his school History Fair project on Sergeant Stubby. It was full of useful facts for his timeline and gave us a thorough biography of this amazing little Dog Hero. He enjoyed reading it and it captured his interest enough to make him choose Sgt. Stubby as his project. He and his dog were "docents" in full costume for his entry and he won First Place.

When I was a little girl, my dad mentioned a "Sgt. Stubby". I have no idea why I thought to look up the story all these years later, but once I saw Stubby was a dog and a Pitty at that, I had to find out more. I loved the story (and of course as I usually do with animal stories, cried!). I would recommend for anyone who has a love and understanding of this breed of dog, or any dogs really. II totally understand why Stubby's owner never got another dog after Stubby passed away. A truly delightful little book. For adults (like me) and especially children (like I was when my wonderful dad mentioned Stubby, all those years ago), who couldn't imagine a life without our four footed friends. Well done.

National Geographic always gives wonderful stories that are well organized and educational. The pictures are awesome and we learned so much about Sergeant Stubby. This dog was amazing and will get more National Geographic kids books.

My 12 year old son loved this book. He is really into learning about WWI and WWII right now and have to order these things myself since he has yet to have one American history class in his first 6 years of school.

My grandson told me about a movie he saw about a WWI hero dog. Having bred pitbulls for many years, I knew that Stubby was a pit bull and WWI mascot. Bought the book for my 8 year old grandson and was glad to see him read it.

Every boy wants a dog and Stubby was extraordinary. My grandson loves the story. I am so glad I got it for him.

My grandson is a dog-crazy kid. This book is fascinating not only for the story of Stubby but also for its historical perspective of WWI including photos and facts.

Great book for dog lovers.

I bought this book hoping to enjoy the read whilst on holiday, but it is only about 9mm thick, and has most pages filled with pictures so not much reading to be had. Of course the 'story' (such that there is) is wonderful, but if you are interested in having a good read about a war-dog, I suggest one of the many others (such as 'It's all about Treo' etc.)

Good little book. But dust cover was damaged with a tear along the edge. It's a Xmas present and since the price has hiked up dramatically I will have to fix it myself!

My son enjoys learning about the war through the eyes of Stubby.
