Absolute must for recuperating
After I broke my leg I knew I would need a high commode at home after surgery & rehab. I had one with a hard seat from a prior surgery but after using the padded type in the rehab facility I knew I had to have one like it. What a difference in comfort & sturdiness. I copied the make & model number and ordered it from Amazon to be delivered before I got home. My wonderful significant other put it together, no tools required in a short time. It is larger and much more comfortable than the standard hard seat and it gives me much more confidence with the sturdier arms to push myself up & down. I am using my old one in the shower as it’s sufficient for short periods of time, but this padded one was a very worthwhile purchase.

Comfortable, pretty solid, but you'll need to remove the toilet seat
Pretty easy to put together, only 5 pieces. It seems pretty sturdy, though the padded seat is held in place by plastic snaps and can slide side to side a bit, going off center. On any ADA or comfort height toilet you'll need to remove the seat to get this commode chair to a usable height (i.e. feet flat on the ground). Additionally, if you have the back bar installed (and you should), you'll need to remove the seat to be able to slide the commode back far enough to be properly over even an elongated bowl. We are not using the funnel, it would be touching the water in the toilet which just seems gross(er). So a few caveats, but I could not find a better solution for a short, heavy, elderly person who would not qualify for (or really benefit from) a bariatric commode, but could not fit comfortably on the standard units by Drive and others with the hard plastic seats.

Worked well after my injury
This was a Godsend after I broke my kneecap. Could use in shower and in toilet area. Height adjustible and easy to use. Padded seat is a must. Do not buy one without a padded seat.

Works well if you need a padded seat after hamstring surgery
Got this for hamstring surgery and it worked better than expected. Having the padding really helped. The height of the chair may be a problem for some. I'm 5'6'' and on the lowest setting my feet did not quite touch the floor, but it was ok. The chair is very sturdy and I did not have any problems with it feeling unstable like some other reviewers mentioned.

Drop arms disengage during normal use and collapsing
I'm on the fence so far. Shipping was great it arrived quickly, however.... I put it together today for my mother and I'm worried about the stability. The release arms seem to be on a hair trigger. I was testing the arms to see if they could hold her as she tried to get up and I was shocked at the number of times just wobbling them released the arms, this could be a disaster. I could understand it if the latch was released but to disengage when wobbling is very worrisome. I will post more after my mom actually tries this seat. I'd really appreciate if the manufacturer (seller) sees this post can can comment on why this is happening.7/25/2018 - this is my update... I called Drive medical and explained about the arm dropping without being purposefully disengaged. The man I spoke with told me to loosen a bolt in a particular spot, he said that this malfunction was due to mechanical over tightening from the factory, I questioned why this issue is going back 4 years and obviously not corrected. I did look at doing this however that bolt doesn't loosen - I called back and spoke to a woman who was very helpful. she checked with a dept and said she would mail out replacement arms. The day the replacement arms came I had a frantic call from my mom, the legs of the chair were collapsing by inches. Apparently according to her OT that day, the tabs that lock in the legs disengaged and one of the chair legs collapsed. The chair at best was always wobbly from the day I put it together. Luckily I had the foresight to order another chair and it was delivered that day (another Drive product but a different design and so far, fingers crossed it's working out well). In the meantime my mom was afraid to try and get back on the current chair because she's a lower leg amputee and could not trust the legs and arms of the chair while she tried to transfer or get up. I think it's terrible that this chair has SO many design flaws and will most likely seriously hurt someone someday, which could result in a severe impact on their life or even death. I had this death trap for 10 days, my advice do not buy it.

Disappointed in stability
We have had other DRIVE commodes since my husbands stroke 10 years ago. This one looks like the others but is made with much less stable materials. When sat upon it gives from side to side, the older ones were strong and secure; this one is not confidence encouraging. I don't know if Amazon is carrying a weaker version, or if the company has gone to cheaper materials. We didn't return it because it was desperately needed, but I will not order this from Amazon in the future.

Fantastic
I purchased this for my elderly mother after her hip replacement. She LOVES it! Wonderfully soft. The only drawback is that she is very short and her feet don't touch the floor.

Nice commode
Was looking for something more comfortable for my husband as he is getting weaker from leukemia. He finds this very comfortable and easy to get on and feels secure with the rails on each side. It is a bit high if it were for a shorter person, when I sit on it, my feet dangle a bit, but my husband is tall (6' 2") so great for him. I would highly recommend it for comfort, the seat is so much nicer than the commode we had before.

Good but not the best
It is comfortable but it would be better without lifting it so you can remove the container and put it back

It’s functional
Well if functions
