Straightforward - measured my kid's head and the dimensions of the hat and it fit well. I wasn't looking for much so I'm happy with it.

Got the 6-9 year old size (tag in hat says 54cm) for my long tall 40 pound 3-year old grandson and it fits him perfectly! Toddler hats are just too small. This has a matching cloth strap across the back with a bronze metal adjuster clip, which is preferable over the plastic snap kind that a toddler won’t leave alone. Red is his favorite color and this was spot on. Made in China, 100% cotton, well made, fair price, great fit.
