Do these sound like the best strings ever? No. Can you tell that they sound a little less resonant? Yes. Are they easy to play and tune? Yes. Is the tone brighter or more dark and mellow? Brighter. Like the "typical" violin sound you might think of it your head. Did they work for what I needed them to? Yes. In the end, these worked as cheap and quickly available replacement strings and so I'm satisfied with them. The strings came together in one package (rather than one string per envelope). They were individually coiled up into a ring shape and came with a clear legend on the package telling you which color was which string. My usual preference is for gut strings. However, those cost 10x as much as these and I am not playing regularly at the moment, which makes buying them a big waste of money right now. With that in mind, I'm perfectly happy with these preludes for the time being.

Good quality strings, easy to install and they hold tuning well. Sound is stable and consistent. Great choice for practice and students.

See below for my background, but I'm putting the important points up top: these strings have really good projection and very bright, clear tone with easy action. Suggested use cases: Beginners, bluegrass, folk, country, and they'll probably sound good on an electric violin (Only have the one set, so I can't test them on my e-fiddle!). They'll be fine in a student or community orchestra as well. Just make sure you're in tune. They're extremely easy to put on provided your violin has a ball end chin rest. Most student violins, especially those with a Whitmer tailgut will be of the ball end variety. Bottom line: excellent value for money, very clear tone, the open strings really 'ring' out beautifully. I've been playing fiddle for about six or seven months now, but I've been a musician literally all my life. I received a used instrument that had, at the time, year old Dominant strings on it that I purchased these to replace. It's taken me this long to actually do the deed because I was frankly uneasy about changing the strings. I had a Chinese VSO (violin-shaped object) before this that literally fell apart when I tried to take one string off, but as long as you have a good quality instrument and only change one string at a time, you'll be fine(mine was a VSO from, like, 1995, literally made of plywood with the sound post glued in place!) The difference between these and Dominant strings, besides the price (Dominants retailing at about $50) is mostly in the tone coloration. These strings are very clear and bright, which some people might describe as "nasally" or "thin". If you have a violin that's already very muddy and dark sounding (the opposite direction from bright/clear) you'll get a good balance from these. But even if you don't, chances are you'll be fine with these strings. If they do sound too shrill for you, you might be able to have your luthier make adjustments to your violin. If you don't have a luthier, get a luthier. Buy them a round or two, or bake them some brownies, whatever you have to do to get into their good graces. You'll thank me when your violin comes unglued (No, really. This is a thing that happens, and it's an easy fix for a qualified luthier/technician)

I'm a violin teacher in the Caribbean, and have used these strings a lot for my students. I like the sound of these strings, and the price is right, so I buy a lot of them in The USA and bring them over. I am in a location where the weather is humid and warm, and I am close to the ocean. Several times (maybe 10 out of 30 sets that I've purchased of various sizes) I have found corrosion on the E strings in packages that had never been opened, rendering the E strings almost unusable. They are still ok for an emergency, but there are small areas of about 1/8" throughout the length of the string that appear to be rusted and feel rough. because of the problem I've had with so many E strings, I will be trying other strings to see if I have the same problem, even though for the price Prelude strings are fantastic. I will just add that I had been storing some of the strings for over a year, and it may not be an issue for you at all depending what kind of climate you're in and how long you need to store the strings. The strings are color coded and packaged all together in one plastic bag that you have to cut open, within a cardboard envelop, so you can't inspect the strings unless you unpack them from their packaging. If I come across another rusty string I'll add a photo.

These are great value strings which will automatically make your imported violin sound better. I bought a violin from China that was handmade. It is gorgeous, but the stock strings are terrible. I replaced them with these Prelude strings and the sound upgraded immediately. They also help hold the instrument in tune better than cheap, factory strings. They also tune up more easily than cheap strings and won't break as easily.

After experimenting with a few different string sets (Dominant, Helicore, Zyex, and Prim), I decided I like the steel core Prims best. When I went to buy Prims again (after a 15 year break from playing fiddle) I saw they were no longer the affordable strings they used to be, so when I looked for a similar alternative, I came across the Preludes. Not only are they really inexpensive, but they sound great, and last. I’ll probably only use these from here out

These are good quality strings. It had been some time since I like changed my strings (meaning never) and my orchestra teacher was so happy to see me walk in with new strings. I had no problems playing with them.

Sono un violinista della domenica, non è il mio lavoro. Ma suono da trenta anni il violino e la mia mi sento di dirla. Vengo dalle corde dominant ma avevo sentito parlare delle corde daddario da amici e questa volta scoraggiato dal prezzo sempre maggiore delle dominant ho deciso di comprare le daddario. Sono rimasto soddisfatto: la corda suona bene, non ha il timbro a scatoletta che le corde da poco prezzo di solito hanno e non fischia (..nonostante non abbia l'anima in nylon). Probabilmente il suono non è chiaro come le dominant ma per il mio uso da studio e non professionale vanno benissimo e costano un terzo. Non credo che tornerò indietro!
