The Mammoth Book of Hollywood Scandals (Mammoth Books 406)

Very badly written
I persevered with this to the end but a good deal of it is gratingly badly written. There are frequent examples of a similar sounding but entirely wrong word being used, once or twice entire sentences are complete gibberish. Also the recurrent use of the whole world 'knowing' or 'watching' something, nonsense, most of the world would have completely oblivious to the latest drink/drug/multi-marriage rampage of some Hollywood no note. Given that it was written in 2013 some of it is completely out of date, some 'happy endings' have since failed and in some cases people have since died.

Interesting
Well-written and interesting, although I was less interested in the recent scandals - such as Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, as they have already had a great deal of coverage in the media and indeed are still being written about. Also, some of the so-called scandals weren't scandals at all, but tragedies.

Very interesting
There are quite a few stories in this book that I've never even heard of and I'm a celebrity junkie. The stories are covered quite thoroughly without getting boring. Well worth the money.

This is a book that you can pick up, read a chapter or two and return when it suits. It is well researched and well written and gives a fascinating insight how some individuals blessed with fame can equally be damaged, or worse, by it. An easy four stars.

Interesting read.
If you love the glamour and scandal of Hollywood then this is the book for you. Thoroughly enjoyed the separate chapters of stories from the silent film era to modern film era.

Highly recommended.
Ok! so some of the scandals were from the 'Golden days' of Hollywood, the roaring twenties etc. but the stories are well told, packed with detail and open many opportunities for further study and enlightenment via the internet. I bought this book after reading Kenneth Anger's 'Hollywood Babylon' and found it no less entertaining, but much more informative. Highly recommended.

Pretty good.
I was hooping to learn about Bruce Lee and Brandon Lee, but I found the book to be informative. I learned a lot about classic stars I would not have known, had I not read this book. I like that the author let you know what was definitive information and what was speculation.

The mammoth etc,
This book goes on until you cant take it anymore, nothing new or interesting in the book from start to finish. Best part was writting this.

Ok. Not great reading.

poorly written
Some interesting stories, but the author often leaves out important details, presumably to support her slant on the events. She does not provide a balanced view of what happened, but imposes her conclusion without considering any other possibilities and therefore selects the evidence to suit her own views. Overall poorly written. I would imagine that most of these scandals can be google searched on the internet where the reader will learn more about what actually happened than reading this book.

Scandal's?
Waste of money and rather simplistically written!!! Would not waste time nor money in buying this book - if that what it is??

Don't waste your money!
This book is just a compilation of past Hollywood 'scandals' that have been pieced together from other sources--it almost quotes Hollywood Babylon word for word. A total piece of garbage and I've already donated it to Goodwill.

Nothing New
Same old stuff, nothing that Kenneth Anger didn't cover.

Counting my blessings
I love the way this book is formatted so, for those who aren't inclined to read such books cover to cover, it's easy to see which subjects are of particular interest to you so you can go right to that story. And there are so many stories here that are of interest to me. The author used her sleuthing skills to compile each original story, then all of its updates so she can tell you "the rest of the story." It saves you a lot of time to have all perspectives in the same place. It's a fascinating book that left me feeling that Hollywood is a place of heartbreak, betrayal, and misunderstandings. We folks who live in the real world, one that isn't dependent on illusion, are the lucky ones.

I did like each chapter being of one particular celeb and moving ...
I honestly could have done without the first half of the book which was scandals of pre-talkie celebs that I had never even heard of and certainly was not interested in wasting my time to read about. Having said that, I did like each chapter being of one particular celeb and moving on to another. It did have some interesting info about the 'recent' well known celebs and their antics or scandals related to their demise. Would I recommend this book? hmmm ... perhaps only by starting with chapters 30-ish such as Clark Gable and moving forward to the present ones.

Sadly, an editor wasn't paying much attention
I enjoyed this book despite that, sadly, an editor wasn't paying attention. By the time I was less than one third through, I was driven to distraction by the overwhelming number of times the word "sadly" was used. Talk about overkill! "So-and-so climbed up to the fiftieth floor and sadly leapt to her death." "Mr. Movie Star shot himself in the head and sadly he died." "Sadly, the child was never found again." "Miss Film Star married sixty two times and sadly passed away in her sleep." Sadly, sadly, sadly, sadly. It got sooo tedious! Aside from the endlessly repeating "sadlys", the writing wasn't bad, and I enjoyed the book. Yeah, I'd still recommend it.

Needs Updating...
Or perhaps another edition. The early sections are interesting for silent film buffs. I admire the research the author has accomplished to put this book out there.

Juicy Gossip
We live in a celeb culture, so we turn to magazines, books, and insider TV shows to allow us glimpses into the private lives of Hollywood's stars and starlets. Oft-times a salacious scandal is fascinating, because it reminds us that these gods and goddesses have feet of clay just as we do. This is a giant collection of Hollywood scandals -- both well-known and little-known -- to titillate that appetite. Like that familiar wedding chant here you'll find something old, something, new, something borrowed, something blue ...
