One of the healthiest things you can consume! (if you're not allergic)
Matcha is a special type of powdered green tea that is grown and produced in Japan (in most cases). The green tea leaves are shaded from the sun for the last few weeks of their growth, increasing the chlorophyll content and creating a gorgeous green color. Then, the leaves are carefully ground with stone grinding wheels to produce a fine powder. The powder can then be used to brew an antioxidant rich frothy green tea or in recipes like smoothies or baking. Unlike other types of teas, the green tea powder is not strained out before consuming, so you are consuming the entire leaf, making Matcha more potent than other tea varieties. In fact, only 1/2 tsp is needed to brew a traditional cup of Matcha.I was greatly disappointed to discover I’m allergic to green tea because it has so many wonderful benefits! Here are some of the wonderful benefits I found:Calm Energy: Matcha tea is unique because the process of shading and harvesting increases the content of L-Theanine, an amino acid that helps balance the caffeine. While matcha may contain the same caffeine as other types of tea, the L-Theanine is known to create calmness without drowsiness.Antioxidants: Another benefit to Matcha is the high concentration of antioxidants. One study found that Matcha has 137 times the polyphenols than regular green tea. In fact, this type of green tea contains over 60x the antioxidants of spinach and 7x the antioxidants of high quality dark chocolate. There is some evidence that these polyphenols may have a protective effect against some types of cancer.Weight Loss: EGCG, found in high concentrations in Matcha, has been shown to increase the rate of burning stored fat as energy, as well as decreasing the formation of new fat cells. Other studies have shown that the catechins in Matcha increase the body’s rate of calorie burning each day and offered additional fat burning benefit during exercise.Healthy Heart: A 2011 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that the catechins in green tea had a significant effect on lowering LDL cholesterol. A 2013 Cochrane review also showed that regular green tea consumption was associated with lower blood pressure and a decreased risk of stroke.Brain Power: The L-Theanine in green tea is known to help stimulate alpha brain waves. These waves are known for their ability to help increase focus and concentration.Chlorophyll Source: The process of shading the Matcha leaves creates an increased amount of Chlorophyll, which some preliminary research has shown may help the body eliminate heavy metals and other harmful buildup. Research is still lacking in this area, but many alternative doctors recommend Chlorophyll for this purpose.Skin Health: The same antioxidants that make green tea protective, including epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), may also help support skin health by reducing inflammation and free radicals that accelerate skin aging.A Caution: Matcha has some amazing benefits, but one important caution and potential downside: lead. All green teas, even organically grown ones, contain trace amounts of lead and fluoride. When brewed as traditional green tea, the leaves are removed, and most of the lead (and some of the fluoride) is removed with the leaves. With Matcha, since the whole leaf is consumed, there is a higher concentration of lead. From everything I’ve read, this is not a reason to avoid this type of tea, since the levels are still low, but I would exercise more caution when pregnant for this reason. If you think my review is interesting or helpful, please rate it as "helpful." I always enjoy writing reviews on products. I make most of my daily purchases on Amazon and base my purchases on reviews from others. I know that honest and helpful reviews can make all the difference in a purchasing decision.

Good value
I honestly do not have anything to compare this to (yet) but I purchased this brand due to its tremendous value and wanted the benefits of Matcha at a decent price. Great packaging, bright green color. No off odors. A little bitter if I taste the powder plain but that is what I expected. I add it to smoothies for myself and my family and very pleased. I will definitely order it again and have already recommended it to clients (I am a health coach/nutritionist). It says it should be refrigerated (which I haven't) but I did transfer to an airtight mason jar. I have not noticed any deterioration and I am sure to finish using within the next month or so given a few of us are using daily.

Dr King Organic Tea
Great tasting tea, fast shipping. However I find that if I use too much at a time it makes me dizzy. I only use a very small amount at a time, about 1/8 of a teaspoon or less. I haven'y tried it in smoothies yet. Other than that a good product. I do recommend it.

Highest quality matcha tea
For the past few months I've been obsessing over tea. I've been drinking everything from Jasmine green tea to Oolong and everything in between on a daily basis. Besides taste, the most important thing to me is quality, so I only order high quality USDA organic teas.Recently, I had been craving matcha green tea. However, looking on Amazon was overwhelming, since there are so many different brands. I had difficulty choosing between this one from Dr. King and Kiss Me Organics (waaay more reviews). So, of course, I turned to google to do some research.I found out the differences between Chinese and Japanese matcha green tea (this one is Japanese and the other is Chinese). A couple of things stuck out to me. First off, Chinese green tea is pan fried which slightly ferments the leaves (most likely not as good for you either). Also, Chinese tea leaves have higher concentrations of lead vs Japanese leaves. In terms of quality, this matcha tea is much better than some of the others listed. It was a no brainer for me since it's competitively priced. Once I received the tea, I was pleasantly surprised. It mixed well and was delicious in milk. Also, the package helps seal in the freshness. It's over a week old now, but I keep it in the fridge and the taste remains the same.

I was disappointed to see a dull green matcha powder that needed ...
I was really excited when I ordered this after seeing such positive reviews and the vibrant green matcha in the picture. After receiving my order, I was disappointed to see a dull green matcha powder that needed a lot more sweetener than usual to get rid of the salty, bitter taste. And I LOVE matcha green tea, so this review isn't coming from a newbie who assumed matcha green tea tastes the same as bagged green tea leaves. It's not the worst matcha and is drinkable, but it's definitely not the beautiful green matcha you see in the pictures. Lesson learned: you get what you pay for. Quality matcha doesn't come cheap.

Great product, mild taste
Great product, mild taste, and dissolves nicely. I am impressed that there is a "best used by date" on the package. I will certainly purchase this tea again. Even though it is culinary grade, the color is bright, and the taste is wonderful. Fair price too!

Venti Green Tea Frapp recipe
Venti Green tea frappacino Recipe: Start with 2 1/2 cups of crushed ice into Vitamix type blender, add enough whole milk to just cover the ice.Add 1 tablespoon vanilla, 1 tablespoon Matcha green tea, 1/4 cup organic real maple syrup -traders and about 9 baby spinach green leaves. Bend at low speed for 1 minute. I recommend you get a venti insulated cup from Starbucks. The spinach really finishes off the green color and you really won't taste it. This can easily be all organic. The real maple syrup is actually healthier than any other sweetner, including agave. If you read their website the indicate that this tea is grown in the part of Japan with no history of radiation.
