flexi Neon, Small, 5 m/ 12 Kg, Yellow

Bought almost exactly a year ago this has worked very well until this week when it simply stopped being retractable. I'm not sure whether this is purely down to the mechanism failing, accumulation of dirt inside or the fact that this persistent wet weather has contributed to it's demise.The highly reflective case is good and a bonus as the days get shorter. Yellow is a very distinct colour for dogs to pick out so when walking with other dogs (I lead guided walks on a local NT estate) this is helpful for them avoiding the tape. So it's had a minimum use of two walks a day for about 360 days before packing in. I'm not sure if this is good reliability or not hence only four stars. While it was working it was easy to use and the tape is strong - essential because my Springer is very powerful and when he spots a pheasant he's off like a rocket.I have bought another one, with the updated design which has only one button on the handle for braking and releasing the tape and which has a plastic buffer on the opening to the tape feed which helps straighten the tape and perhaps helps clean it as it retracts. I hope this will last longer than a year. A plus point to the manufacturer is that the new lead came sensibly packed in cardboard and not in a blister pack of plastic which requires major surgery to open.

Bought two of these several months ago. Wanted to thoroughly test before leaving a review. So here are my thoughts - great sturdy lead, very comfortable to hold with very easy to reach buttons to lock and release. One of my dogs is solid and strong and he's tested this lead to it's max and it is still working perfectly. The other however did develop a fault after a few days but a quick message to Amazon and a replacement was sent out immediately which to date has worked perfectly. Love the reflective handle and the bright lead which both show up really well which is great if , like me, you do a lot of walking on country lanes. The only negative I would say is that when the lead is locked onto a shorter length it does click quite loudly as the dogs pull and release. Not a problem for me as they're usually on the full length but thought it worth mentioning. In short a great lead that will be purchased again when the current ones need replacing.

It does what it says on the box and is worthy of the 3 stars but there are areas I thinkwhich could be improved. We had a smaller flexy tape reel prior to purchasing this model and in some important ways was much better.The yellow is florescent and does aid vision, ie me seeing the lead and being seen by others. The reeling in and out of the tape is quieter and smoother than previous model owned, so that is a bonus. But the handle is way too smooth and hard whereas it was rubbery and grippy on the previous one. I am worried about keep a hold on this one. I really don't like that the operation knobs are too far from the handle, those with smaller hands will have trouble reaching I think. It is most apparent when you have to stretch to take the lock off. Also once the lock is applied, the mechanism clacks and cracks as the tension in the lead pulls against the brake. So as you walk you hear a series of noises constantly when you have the lock on unless you are lucky to have a dog which walks with a totally slack lead never pulling. Our dog does not pull, but walks at the end of the extension provided to him, the noise is quite loud. You will get a loud "clack" almost every pace you take.On the upside on the Large model, as there is no braid piece attaching to the heavy spring-loaded clip, the lead retracts almost completely, allowing you to walk with the dog no more than a couple of inches from you. This is helpful in the event you need greater control to avoid confrontations etc.

This lead is absolutely perfect. I have the 'Large' size for my Rottweiler and I am so pleased with it! Now she doesn't pull particularly, only if she see's a cat r something. But this lead, compared to the new Flexi versions is super light, not heavy at all even in the large size. It's comfortable for me to hold and I have small hands. It even slots perfectly into my Craghoppers jacket pocket. It has a thick tape lead, which is super durable and easy to spot. No one is getting tangled in that! In the 5 years I've washed the tape section once when I thought it was a bit dull and its brightened right up again also, no colour loss at all.(As you can see my Rotti thinks the Large size is great to walk her Boarder Terrier cousin too!)

EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS LEAD SCREAMS QUALITY. FROM THE MOMENT YOU HOLD IT YOU CAN FEEL HOW WELL MADE AND STURDY IT IS. THERE IS NO FAULTING BUILD QUALITY. IT HAS A LARGER REFLECTIVE AREA THAN MOST OTHER COMPETITORS. THE LEASH ITSELF SLIDES IN AND OUT WITH THE MINIMUM OF EFFORT. I WAS PURCHASING A MUCH LARGER DOG BUT WHEN THAT FELL THROUGH I PURCHASED A CHIHUAHUA AND HE HAS NO PROBLEMS PULLING THE LEASH OUT AT 14 WEEKS. THE STRONG AND QUALITY CLASP IS HELD IN PLACE BY TWO ROWS OF TIGHT AND OVERLAPPING STITCHING AND A BLACK PLASTIC COVER PROTECTS THE STITCHING AS MUCH AS YOU CAN PROTECT IT FROM THE ELEMENTS. THE LOCK MECHANISM WORKS JUST GREAT WHETHER YOU WANT TO JUST TEMPORARILY RESTRAIN YOUR BEST FRIEND OR YOU WANT TO FLICK THE BRIGHT YELLOW LEVER/SWITCH FORWARD FOR A MORE PERMANENT HOLD. YOU GET ALL THIS AND THE BONUS THAT YOU ARE CLEARLY VISIBLE AT NIGHT WHEN OUT WALKING YOUR DOG. I'M THRILLED TO BITS WITH MINE AND WOULD HAPPILY RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE ELSE. I HOPE THIS HELPS AFTER ALL, YOUR DOG DESERVES IT WOULDN'T YOU SAY!?

We got this as our local park had introduced a ban on dogs off the lead and our usual lead was quite short. This is great as it is very visible so easy for people to see and not get garrotted by and it allowed our dog to roam at more of a distance. Our medium-sized dog does not pull too much generally and it seems sturdy enough but can't comment on how it would hold with a larger dog pulling hard on it. For our purposes it is great and works well, seems sturdy enough and easy to use and see.
