Agonisingly effective
Hurray! You are going into the menopause - no more periods! Everything is wonderful! But wait, what, no, you're growing a damn beard???? Not okay!!!!Western society has rather negative attitudes towards facial hair on women, and I'm sad to say that I have absorbed some of this negativity myself. Over the last few months, I've noted more and more fluff growing on my face, and I just couldn't bear it any longer.I was going to buy wax strips to whisk away the whiskers, but I kept reading reviews about wax either not being very effective, or being so effective it ripped away skin as well as hair. Neither option appealed, so I decided to get an epilator instead.I chose a Braun epilator, because they are a trusted brand for shavers and clippers, and I picked this particular product because it has received a very high number of positive reviews. Thank you, fellow reviewers! I'm really glad I trusted you and got this one!If you have never used an epilator before, there's two things you need to know:1. They work by plucking out the hairs rather than shaving them, so there's no stubble feeling, and you remain hairless for longer than you would if you shaved. My face is now as smooth as a baby's bottom!2. Plucking 20 hairs at a time, several times a second, is really painful!!!! There is no getting around the fact that this method of hair removal hurts, and you are going to have to be brave. You will need to go over the same area slowly, a few times, in order to remove all the hair, so it's not a quick flash of pain like ripping off a wax strip, and you're going to have to put up with a few minutes of pain in order to get a nice smooth finish. Fortunately, once you finish with the epilator, the pain is over quite quickly.I am really glad I got this device, and I am definitely willing to put up with the pain in order to get rid of the beard. I feel so much better about myself, now I don't have face fluff!Definitely recommended, for women of a certain age, or trans women who seek an alternative to shaving. The Braun Silk-épil is agonisingly effective.

Updated from the original silk épil 3
This is my second silk épil 3, the last one lasted for absolutely years . So I was very happy to purchase another one.Fantastic price , neat unit , easy to use , yes you do need an adapter, it states that quite clearly. The updated version has little bars either side of the epilator, I personally do not like them, yes they help to lift your hairs from your skin however, on some areas of my legs feel scratched from them. Hence the 4 stars ..

My first Epilator
*make sure you have a EU plug adaptor, the plug for this product has two prongs*I've seen Epilators gain popularity lately, and decided that i would give one a go.I chose this one because it seems to be a brand that everyone uses and i am honestly so glad that i have purchased this one. Having never used one of these before i must admit that it looked like a torture device and i was a bit scared to put this on my skin at first in case it pinched me, but after a few minutes of daring myself to give it a go i did.Ladies and gents, if you've never used one of these before i would suggest you don't start with your arm as a test like i did, especially if you have quite hairy arms! Ouch! after panicking that i had ripped my entire arm off, I was quickly reassured that the searing pain was in fact just pain from all of my hair being ripped out one by one - so ... this little device actually delivered on what its supposed to do - and its completely safe, I'm just a big wimp, after some experimentation i found that its honestly almost impossible for it to pinch your skin or hurt you when you use it on your skin (other than the individual hair ripping of course). yay! for me personally the legs was the place to start, my legs are not as sensitive and it was tolerable, did not enjoy the ankle area though.Safe to say i absolutely loved the results once i was done! I'm as smooth as a baby and this is definitely going to replace my razor. in fact, i was so pleased with the results that a put my brave face on and tried to remove armpit hair too. I wont give you the details of how that went as i cant use inappropriate language on here. but the result? - MARVELLOUS. I spent the past week admiring my naked armpits every time i walked the mirror (sad I know).Epilating definitely hurts more than waxing, but it is so much convenient as it leaves no mess, is just as quick shaving in my opinion. This little device has its own light to help you see the fine hairs easier and it also comes with a trimmer attachment. you will need one of those EU plug adaptors which wasn't issue for me as my partner has one for his beard trimmer. all you gotta do is plug it in and go. i truly believe that with frequent use and maintenance the pain wont be that much worse than tweezing my eyebrows so i look forward to that, and i find that once you get going, adrenaline kicks in and you get used to it. Kind of like when you get a tattoo and the first 5 mins is the worst until you get used to it. For the price its definitely worth having this little gadget if you can tolerate the pain and persist.

No good.
It came with a 2 pin plug so had to buy a 3 pin plug to plug it in.Does not work unless it is plugged in to the mains.

Cheaply made
The switch is very loose feeling and feels cheaply made. Suppose you get what you pay for. Works ok as epilator but found you have to keep going over areas. The razor attachment is ok.
