TCL 501 BLACK

I ordered this for a friend who is very pleased with it. It was easy to set up and works well.

Both of the ones I ordered with bricked in the same way - on attempting to do a first time set up, after copying data from the old phone and entering a pin number the quickstep app would crash, preventing access to any app or settings. There appears to be no way to do a factory reset. Google appears to have released an app that does not bother with the most basic of error reporting, and hence make something needlessly expensive to investigate and fix. TCL made quickstep the front-end, so together they made a useless product. Whether this behaviour occurs on other copies of this phone will probably depend on your setup options. I do not know what combination of options reproduces the errors, save those I use to set up both of mine. They have now both been returned and I will seek a refund.

I've been on the look out for a cheap phone to use a remote control. Not only is this Android 14 (note it is the Go edition, which has some limitations) but it's at the price point of other Chinese cheap phones that don't work, where this one actually does! It is a bit sluggish and your not going to playing many games at a high FPS but for a remote control for Tuya, Roku etc... It's the perfect device at under £50! Screen is bright and viewing angels are great. Love the idea of a removable battery so it's replaceable if it degrades. Cheap cheerful and functional phone, oh and as a bonus it supports 5G!

Giving this 4 out of 5 stars overall. It can be a little sluggish at times, so it’s not the fastest phone out there, but for the price it still offers really good value. Where it shines is as a first phone, especially for kids. It does everything they need without breaking the bank, which makes it a great option for Christmas or as a starter phone. Also, if it gets dropped or damaged like our sons did, it’s not an expensive nightmare to replace. For that reason alone, it’s a very practical buy and one I’d still recommend.

It appeared to be very good, but, even though I paid extra for new version, there were signs of previous use, so I had to return same. I intend to re order.

Do not buy this phone- it's absolute rubbish! Can't run more than one app at a time without freezing and crashing. The UX crashes constantly, the battery life is horrible and it's constantly stops charging at random. Even at £50 this feels like a scam, you'd be better off with a 2010 Huawei than this piece of crap.

brought this as a work phone 5 months ago because i'm sick of breaking expencive phones on the job. its held up well until now its a very tough and durable phone. the battery life is pretty terrible and its slow but it does everything you need from a phone started having an issue a few days ago. it displays a message saying has a verity curruption error and now the phone constantly restarts every time you use it for more then 5 mins making it nearly unusable. For people looking to buy a tcl 501 it is worth getting if you need a temporary budget phone but thats about all it is a cheap temp
