Great for learning, keep it for a reference later.
I got the Kindle version of this before I took the Certified Fiber Optic Technicians Course, then was issued the text book version during the course. Both versions were good and did a great job going through somewhat dry material in a quick and easy to read format.

The FOA Guide
I'm using this book right now for the fall semester. So far the book is good teaching me the basics of fiber optics. At the end of each chapter there are quizzes. There is no answers at the back because the answers are there when you read it. The only thing I didn't know about is you can view this book online for free. It's pretty much the same thing and they added more stuff about fiber optics (the more detailed stuff and how it works).

This book is straight to the point and covers the common issues of FO. You need the instruction and hands on practice to gain the experience and by all means, take notes..

quite bad
the material of the book is quite cheap, cover and pages layout look quite poor and not professional. topics in the book are explained quite well but in a random order, they start few chapter talking about complex stuff assuming that you know them and after 20 pages they explay what they were previously talking....
