If I could get my money back, I would get another brand for sure at this point.
Actually, I am still waiting for a replacement for this from Kwikset. I had to briefly remove the lock during installation, and the mechanism of the lock actually broke. There is a small brass bar that holds that part on, and it did not survive the removal. Kwikset is replacing it, s-l-o-w-l-y. My guess is that I twill be great when I finally install it. WRONG AGAIN. The part arrived 6 weeks later, and the lok broke on installation with the key permanently impaled in the lock. I guess another 6 or more weeks. I am not impressed with this product. My old lock was removed and replaced in 10 minutes. This one is not so secure. A thief could unscrew the surface screws, and with some effort, also loosen the deep screws and "voila!", the lock falls off!!

Beware of the "always lock" feature
This Gatelatch is made to secure the fence around a pool, which means:1. It's always locked so that an adult would never forget to lock the pool gate (for kids safety)2. It's keyed on both sides, so that kids can't reach into the other side and open the gate.3. It looks like a deadbolt, but it's not. The protruding bolt is more like that of a door knob than a deadbolt.I super love the SmartKey feature so that I can use a single key for all locks in the house. If someone in my house lost a key, I wouldn't have to change all the locks. Just re-key them. It takes less than 30 seconds to do. The tool to re-key is included with any SmartKey lock.Quality is good, but Schlage and Baldwin look better.

Easy installation, works as desired.
The gate leading to my yard has a steel gate with cutout for a lock. I installed this one as it self locks when the gate is closed. This adds one additional layer of protection should a service person forget to latch the gate.The receiver part of the gate is protected and even with tools I was unable to defeat the bolt by pushing it. Another nice feature is the way that the screws hold the thing together. In order to defeat the lock an intruder would need to remove two screws on the back of the gate, then remove some recessed screws inside the cylinder. Yes, a dedicated burglar can do this, or bring a welder to the job, but it will at least slow them down a bit.

The instructions for installation of the lock are horrible and the brass inside and outside coverings do not properly cover the lock. It is bent and scratched and looks horrible! I think the company should replace them for me at the very least since the installation instructions are so poorly written.
