nice watch, budget friendly
I had originally ordered an off-brand smart watch, which I packed up and returned within 30 minutes of opening the package. Let's just say you get what you pay for. I did some research and started thinking more about the features that were the most important to me. Price, of course, needed to be budget-friendly. I snagged this watch on Amazon for $60. I didn't need to be able to make calls or return texts, but thought it would be nice to know when someone called or texted if I didn't have my phone in front of me. I wanted to count steps, count calories, track my sleep and check my vitals. And... its been a long time since I've actually worn a watch for telling time, and since I am a teacher, it would be nice to not have to rely on my phone or an imprecise analog wall clock. I wanted something big enough for my old eyes to see, but not something huge and uncomfortable. After doing some research and comparing models and features, I decided on the Amazfit Bip 5 Unity. It had everything I was looking for, was a name brand, and received high ratings. Upon receiving the watch, I was immediately impressed. It was nicely packaged, and came with thorough instructions (not just 6 bullet points, but THOROUGH instructions written in clear English). Instructions can also be found online and are downloadable to your phone. However, I haven't had to refer to the manual too many times because the watch and Zepp app are so easy to navigate. The step count seems accurate. I can set the watch to measure calories and vitals when using my eliptical machine (or most other activities for that matter). The Zepp app allows for tracking calorie intake. You can type in the food or scan a label- which is super handy! I have not used this part of the app because I use a different app for that (mynetdiary). At this time the mynetdiary app does not sync with the Bip 5 Unity, so in the future I may consider switching my dietary tracking to the Zepp app so that I have all of the information in one place. The watch does sync with some of the other fitness apps out there (see the Amazon description). The watch can measure heart rate, O2 saturation, sleep, stress level, steps, calories, and gives a PAI score (look online for an explanation of this). You can customize how often you want your vitals to be monitored (The more frequently you monitor, the more battery it uses). The display is easy to read, even for these old eyes. I can use quick reply texts, which can be edited to meet my needs. I can send emojis also. I can get calendar reminders and notifications for any other app that I want to have connected to my watch. I can receive emails to my watch- depending on the graphics of the email, I may not necessarily see everything, but I see enough to know if I need to respond right away. The watch does not support wifi- it connects to the phone via wifi, and can be used to track vitals when not connected to the phone. I cannot make calls on the watch; there is no microphone or speaker. It only vibrates. I like that I can use the watch to locate my phone when it's connected via bluetooth because I misplace my phone at least 5 times a day. The wrist band is comfortable. The extra length tucks down under the band, out of the way. It's comfortable to wear at night. This is a big win for me because I usually take off all of my accessories as soon as I get home from work so that I can feel comfortable. If the band doesn't work for you, you can find compatible bands online. I've only had the watch for 3 days, so I don't know about the battery life yet. I have been using it a lot so far because it is new and I am still learning all the features. On day 3, I am at 42% with moderate use. I have the screen dimmed down to about 50% for everyday use. It seemed a little dim while driving, but I think it will be easier to see outdoors if I turn up the screen brightness a bit. I will test this out on an upcoming trip. Of course, this will impact battery life also. The watch faces are easy to change. There are several free faces and others you can pay for. Some faces show more information than others. You can choose a face to fit your style and needs. You can use a picture of your own for a watch face and you can choose what information you want to be displayed (e.g. time, temperature, heart rate). My daughter has fun changing the watch faces using the app. I bought a package of soft clear TPU cases to protect the face of the watch from scratches (available on Amazon). The screen does not have an "always on" setting. I thought this might bother me, but all I have to do is turn my wrist to look at the face and the screen turns on for a few seconds. I have a small arm, and the watch face is big (but most smart watches are!), but I don't mind this, because I can see the screen better. Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend this watch for someone who is looking for a basic smart watch without a ton of bells and whistles.Update to post: the silicone band was becoming uncomfortable because it would stick to my arm, especially when it was hot outside or when I was sweaty. I bought a set of 22mm stretchy nylon bands and replaced the silicone band. Problem solved. Also, it is possible to lock the screen so it is "always on."

A good watch
I have owned one of these for about a year now so I figured it's best to review it. It is a good, slightly better than basic fitness tracker/watch. The UI for finding your apps can be slightly complicated when you first look at it but once you understand how it is laid out then it's fine. I recommend finding a screen protector of any kind as the screen can get scuffed up easily without you even realizing it. But for half to a quarter of the price of a Fitbit, in comparison it's great. I've owned three Fitbits, all of which have broken in some fashion withing a year or two of owning the.. The sleep tracking could be a bit more in depth but that's a personal preference. It hits the basics needs. I only charge it about once every three weeks with the settings I use so a 10/10 on battery life. Overall despite my grips I give it a 4 star for the price, the function and the big screen.

Excellent basic health monitor
I actually bought 2 of these, one for myself to try first, and the second to help monitor my aging mom's health. They arrived very quickly and were reasonably priced.I wear mine daily to keep track of steps, heart rate, and O2 stats. It was surprising to be able to see sleep stats and potential sleep apnea issues. It was very easy to set up and I think the company has a lot of potential. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but I have found it very useful and look forward to seeing what else the amazfit people come out with. If you are tech savy and into programming, they have a site and tools where you could create apps for use with their products.

It has good points and bad points.
I chose this watch over Apple as Apple no longer counts steps and that is my main exercise as a senior. I also do not like my phone calls going to a watch as it is too small for someone with cataracts to use. This watch does not have to connect to a phone so it won't be getting messages and running it's battery down. There are 2 problems though. It is hard to find a watch face choice with big enough numbers for the steps. I would like TIME DATE STEPS in BIG numbers and that is it. Problem 2 is that I cannot manually record my swimming in the phone app. It is not waterproof but I would like to manually add how much time I do water aerobics each day so I could see that along with my steps.

Another Great Amafit Watch
This is the 2nd time I’m buying an Amafit watch. I’ve owned the last one for over 5 years. When it started to slow down, I decided to buy this one. It works great and has everything I need to track myself. Great watch. I just couldn’t see myself buying another Fitbit or an Apple Watch. This works as great as those for a lot less money.

Helps me stay on track!
I love this fitness band as it helps me keep up with my workouts, tracks my sleep, it even tells me the outside temperature!.The only reason it didn't get a 5 star review is because when I take my pet out for his walk in his carrier which is similar to a baby carriage the band does not recognize that I am moving due to the fact I need both hands on the carrier to steer it. I tried putting the band on my shoe, but when the weather is bad I was worried the band would get wet. I ended up putting on my purse. Unfortunately since the band is not touching my skin I don't get all of the info possible. Still it's a big help and I am happy to use it.
