how long is top strap - will it accommodate a TV monitor in headrest?

No I would not try a monitor with this kick mat. It's not strong enough.

is it really polyester? smells like stinky vinyl and something is crinkling in-between the front and back. is that how yours were? just checkin.

Mine don't sound like they have a crinkle sound to them and they definatly aren't vinyl but they might not be real polyester either. Mine work great for my SUV and keep my seat from getting all dirty from my daughter kicking the seat.

Do these have a strap holding the bottom against the seat, or do they just hang straight down?

There is a strap that connects around the base of the seat to hold it down. Any if you plan to fold the seat often, these mats might not work.
