I ordered this Smartivity Hydraulic Forklift for my grandson.My grandson is a maniac when it comes to vehicles. He's never met anything with wheels that he doesn't love to play with. He's also a fan of building things (or, more accurately, watching them being built) so I thought I would give this kit a try. I was surprised by the overall quality and amount of engagement this forklift provides.I really need to start by giving the instructions a shout out. The instructions for constructing this forklift are absolutely top notch. One really great thing is that all of the parts are numbered, and the numbering coincides with the order in which you need to put them together. In other words, part 1 will get connected to part 2, then part 3 is added, and so on. This makes for error-free construction. The forklift is made nearly entirely of die cut wood pieces that are easily removable from the sheet they are cut out of. The pieces fit together perfectly and are held in place by little rubber bands. In another example of well thought out engineering, there are two different sizes of rubber bands. It's easy to tell when looking at the directions which size to use because they are different colors.The hydraulic system is about as basic as it gets. There are two syringes that are connected to one another by a plastic tube. You fill one syringe with the tube attached with water until there are no bubbles in the syringe or tube. Then the end of the tube connects to the second syringe. Pushing the water out of the first syringe causes the second one to fill up, and in the process the fork is lowered. Drawing water back into the first syringe causes the fork to rise. You can lift all sorts of other toys with this forklift.My grandson played with this thing for 30 solid minutes on the day I built it for him (about a week ago.) Since then, he's played with it every day. It is holding together well and not a drop of water has leaked out of the hydraulic system. This one's a winner, folks.

I got this for my 6 and 8 year old kids and it was great. The instructions are well made and go over step by step. The kids followed the directions and put the whole thing together with little help from me, besides the water. The parts are very clearly labelled as well in case you want to remove all the pieces or find them as you go.It took us around 30-45 minutes to put the whole thing together. It was also great to show them what hydraulic went and you control the lift with the syringe on the back.Definitely would recommend this!

The fork lift has too many small pieces. Students would require an adult to supervise at all times. This is not a project that allows students to work independently in small groups. It would require students from age 7 -10 to be supervised . This is a educational puzzle and toy.
