Masterpiece: Armand Van Helden

Not quite what you'd expect - but it's excellent; encompassing NY house, soul, electro and all sorts

armand never disapointed....amazing collection.

Yet again, I have found with these 3 CD mixes, the DJ struggles to keep you entertained. Very Very few of these "Masterpieces" is the listener happy and entertained with quality mixing, variety and interesting track selection over a long period of time.(which is the idea from MOS)The 2nd CD has some excellent old tunes on there, and is perfect for what the mix and collection was created for. But I find the theme on the other 2 disks just off key and not what the listener whats or needs from the collection. Resident Advisor gave it a 3/5 and I will the same. I was left wanting needing and expecting more - and was disappointed. Where was the quality 2015 house mix? or some of his excellent tracks from the late 90's early 00's My My, or Flowers? Something new, fresh and modern on the 3rd disk perhaps? - Not sure why he didn't choose to do this. This mix could have hit the nail on the head for this DJ, Armand has been quiet for quite a few years now and on this effort, I can see why.

completed the masterpiece collection for me! strong series of cds coveingr a wide collection of various musical tastes. highly recommended.

This is not what you would normally hear from Armand van helden. It's like cheesy 80's tunes and not even the good ones.

Beware! There is some weird stuff on here, which you may not expect to find (well I didn't). Have to agree that there is a lack of good mixing (is this what his sets sounded like?) and some awful tunes, especially on CD2, ( I mean Ambrosia - Biggest part of me - really?) CD 3 is better with Lisa Lisa and Joyce Sims, CD 1 probably the best with some good tunes and better mixing, but it does make you wonder if a 3 CD set is just overkill. Luckily it was a mere £3.80 when I purchased it. I preferred the Goldie, and Fabio/Grooverider CD's in this Masterpiece collection.
