Fantastic account of the history of the world in five different themes that help shaped our institutions today.
Fantastic account of the history of the world in five different themes that help shaped our institutions today. The first chapter is a traditional history of the world with some new information that goes to the central thesis of the world was truly connected from 1945 and on.The second chapter is dedicated to the exchange of goods and services in terms of economics, which I think was the weakest chapter because it did not do a good job explaining some of the technical lingo that is central to understanding business. The third chapter is dedicated to the environmental impact of the growing amount of industrialized nations after decolonization. This chapter is good because while it still sticks to the central theme of global interdependence, it starts to show that not all of the nations in the world getting along in global peace and everything was peaches and creamChapter four is the same, but explaining global cultures instead of the environment. This is the only chapter that really digs deep into the East-West divide of the traditional Cold War framework, instead of the North-South one the book proposes.Chapter five is a case study of how the world has connected since 1945. It is interesting to see how the world has connected since the end of the Second World War, but the chapter presents nothing new.Overall, phenomenal book that should be included in any upper level high school history or college course on World history of the Cold War.
