Infant Massage (Fourth Edition): A Handbook for Loving Parents

I taught infant massage to new parents for 17 years and used this book most do the time. Now it is my standard baby shower gift along with organic coconut oil. Great pics to demonstrate techniques

This is an excellent, well-written book. I am a massage therapist. Part of my work involves pregnancy massage and teaching infant massage classes to moms on-site and at A Touch of Health in Newton, Mass. This book has everything in it to give the moms what they need to know. It is a great textbook to go along with the infant massage classes. It tells all about the strokes and bonding with the babies and the best times and atmospheres for the massage. It tells many benefits of infant massage, such as how it can help with gas and colic. A plus is that while the parent is massaging the baby, it is also relaxing for the parent. I highly recommend it. It makes a lovely gift for the expectant mom or mom with a newborn.

I was still using the original book for my practice, but the new version is superb. I gave it as baby gifts to two friends. They loved it, since I couldn't be there to teach, they were able to understand the information on performing infant massage safely and effectively. I am a registered infant massage instructor, and a former NICU RN.

If you are expecting a baby, if your baby has already arrived or if you are looking for a gift for someone - this is a great book! It is a sublimation of decades of personal experience and thousands of years of tradition. This is not a book meant to tell you what do to, it is a book that will offer new ideas, new points of view and potentially broaden your parenting horizons.More importantly, the book supports the parents as being the experts on their babies, and respects the baby's ability to teach and guide the parent. I believe that attunement, synchronicity, empathy and love are what propelled the author to create this handbook.

My little one loves this and I really believe those massage technics help them with so many issues especially at those months when they can't crawl and move just yet

Good thorough book. Used it when took infant massage to be instructor. Has lots of information...if you just need hand positions for fir instance newborn...others may be faster to get thru. This is well worth the read

Quick delivery and accurate description of the quality of the book!

I am learning to be a Baby Massage Instructor and this book is on the reading list. I opted for this book as the author, Vimala McClure, is credited for reintroducing the ancient art of massage to the western world. I have found it to be a useful text book, full of references to the research that underpins the importance of this simple, ancient art. Despite being a text book, it is also written for most audiences, including parents, who are interested in learning the movements and also some of the background knowledge. I personally, look forward to completing my course, so I am able to teach this skill to the mothers who I work with on a professional basis. I can see this book helping me to achieve my aim, both now and in the future. Prior to purchasing the book I read some of the reviews. I note that the negative reviews seem to focus on this being too theoretical and that the reader wasn't able to quickly dive into learning the movements. If you are looking for a book that teaches you the art of massage overnight, then this book is not for you, and I respectfully suggest that you look for a video instead

Infant massage is essential for a child devevolpment. The book provides very accessible instructions with clear pictures. Every parent should read the book and put it in practice. It can also be a very nice present for new parents.
