Best upgrade EVER!! (But see Update...)
Before I installed this unit, the transmission temperature in my 2013 Chevy Tahoe (with tow package) pulling a 7500 pound camper would be almost 240 degrees in the summer. After installing it, the temperature reached 207 after long hill climbs and then would return to under 200 for the entire 400-mile trip in 95 degree weather. Super performance!Installation Notes: This unit replaced the existing external transmission cooler. I needed to custom-make brackets for the top but used existing holes in the frame for the bottom. I wired the fan to blow into the unit. I could not find an ignition-switched fuse so I attached it to the sunroof (don't have) 30A fuse. I was worried that the fan would run for a long time after I stopped but that was not the case. One note about my setup. I did not attach the thermal switch directly to the unit (see picture). If you have to do this you will have to buy 2 more hose clamps. Finally, when I first tested the unit it leaked where the sensor screws into its assembly. I gently tried pliers to tighten it but that did not work. I applied permatex high temp thread sealer to the sensor and hand tightened. No leaks the next day!UPDATE: 2000 Miles later! When I pulled into my driveway I noticed a shiny puddle near my Tahoe. I looked down the driveway and saw a whole trail of "shiny"! I knew right away from the smell that it was transmission fluid. I looked under the car and couldn't see anything obvious so I started her up and saw fluid streaming out the bottom. Long story short, one of the small hose clamps broke in half. It did not break at the worm drive; it was in the middle. Never seen that before. I replaced it with a larger hose clamp and it seems to be fine. I got real lucky that I was just pulling in the driveway and noticed the leak. In just a few minutes it lost two quarts. This could have been catastrophic if it happened anywhere else. I was also lucky that the broken clamp was visible and reachable. I am now paranoid about the other clamps that came with the kit. I plan on removing the whole bumper assembly and adding a second set of clamps to each connection.

Not a happy camper!
As part of my conversion from a TH400 to a TH200R4, I ran the fluid line out from the transmission into a filter, then through a static cooler in the front of the car. As it is a show car and idles a lot in parades I decided to add this Derale Hyper-cool as an added safety margin before the fluid returns to the transmission. Logic said that I should replace all my old hoses with the new hose that came with the kit. BIG MISTAKE! The hose is so soft it blew off the steel lines even though it was double clamped with lined clamps. The first time I thought I had forgotten to tighten the clamps and redid them all to make sure but I lost another connection. I then paid a premium to have the steel lines bulged. That fixed that problem but next a hose split down middle and blew oil over the engine, under-body and transmission. All together 14 quarts of wasted synthetic transmission fluid, three 50 pound bags of oil dry and 63 hours cleaning oil off the show car components.Of the bags of connectors included in the kit, most are not used and the thermostat does not work at all. I hooked up a manual switch and use it when my temp gauge reads 180 degrees. It would be nice if the cooler did that on its own.The plate cooler seems to be well built and the fan works well. Apparently these are only available as a complete kit so I cannot endorse wasting money on the complete set with junk parts.I suggest you save money and time by purchasing any standard cooler, buy an oil temp gauge, add a fan with thermostat or manual switch and connect it all with Gates Transmission Hose which is American made and holds up to 300 PSI at 400 degrees F.

Replacement for leaker
I bought this unit about 2 years ago. Worked perfect. Kept my temps real low. The thermostat would shut the fan off at ~145*.Then that unit developed a fluid leak. Was losing a quart every ~300 miles. Of course there was no warranty. For the price I paid 12 months is waaaay short.Anyway, bought this unit to replace that leaker. Everything was the same except they changed the thermostat. This unit shuts the fan off at ~175*. Not too happy with that.As a side note, Derale never returns emails or phone messages. If you call and get a live person, consider buying a lottery ticket next thing ! ! !

Just what we needed
Works fine. Ours came with a bad switch, but they sent a new one right away.

ATF catches fire easily when it hits the exhaust
fits and works perfectly on a 1997 F350 PowerJoke PowerStroke 2wd with a e40d transmission that puked fluid when it gets hot. basically, if your transmission gets hot, your seal gets soft and spits tranny fluid all over. Get one of these fast before your vehicle catches on fire. ATF catches fire easily when it hits the exhaust. You might also want to get the Derale cooling transmission pan too.

Awesome unit
Put this on my 2012 6.2 1500 Silverado absolutely zero difference in transmission temperature ....pulling on a hot day 6000 lb camper fan still does not even kick on at 210°. one star rating if that. I talked to Derale directly before and after I bought it and talked to two different people. what they said did not match up to the other person...Where it can be installed ,how to hook it up (polarity- pushing or pulling ) etc etc.

Three Stars
Function OK but doesn't cool the trany any better than a none fan cooler.
