Complete Savoy Sessions + 19 Bonus Tracks

Since the Covid Pandemic we have been unable to visit our favorite jazz clubs, so we have been shoring up our personal jazz collection. We love the 50's jazz era, and have recently purchased a lot of fabulous cds and many artist. We love Charlie Parker of course but 'The Complete Savoy Sessions' is very annoying. They play a riff of a song 3 or 4 times yelling "Cut" and alter the riff slightly. There is no continuity. It's hard to listen to. This may appeal to you, but we where looking for an album with songs. Nothing in the description informed us of the format. In our own ignorance we got snookered.

I have not heard this edition of the Parker Savoy recordings, so can't give specifics. But the first place for anyone interested in Parker's music to go should be his Dial and Savoy material. There's a companion volume with the Dials and some bonus tracks, and like this one it's ridiculously inexpensive as well as complete. If any jazz musician's alternate takes merit exhaustive documentation and repay the effort spent listening, it's Charlie Parker. Someone who owns this can vouch for the sound quality, liner notes and other details.

I have both Complete Savoy and Dial Studio Sessions [BOX SET] from Savoy jazz label,but also Complete Dial sessions and Complete Savoy sessions from Definitive label too.Complete Savoy and Dial Studio Sessions from Savoy has better sound, but on songs Groovin' high (number 107 on this Definitive cd)All the things you are (108) and Dizzy atmosphere (109) is sound on this cd much better then on Savoy version.

Super value for money. World changing music.

Excellent value - good service and wonderful music what else is there to say.

To be fair, if one is seeking a bargain and the quality of the transfers is a non issue then this is for you. Oddly enough, the likelyhood of a non collector being interested in the alt. takes and false starts of which there is an abundance, is low, and yet the transfers are noise reduced so they can be consumed by the average listener. If one is seeking collector's quality this ain't it, but is is a big loada music.

If you don't have this, you've wasted your life so far. Lots of alternate takes showing how Parker develops his improvisations and tries out beautiful alternatives that didn't make the master.

It's Charlie Parker, it's his best period--the only drawback is that the number of alternate takes may discourage the casual listener.
