Dragnet [DVD]

"Thank God It's Friday!" Great movie, fantastic picture & audio, poor artwork (but 5 stars all the same)
Great picture quality and the audio is a lot better than previous formats especially the openening title sequence with the Art of Noise's "Dragnet" theme tune pounding away with no distortion. It is great to see this film playing at the correct speed once again as UK DVDs are PAL system and play 4% faster due to the 25fps frame rate and the pitch wasn't adjusted so it all aways sounded slightly off. Thankfully Blu-ray doesn't have that problem. Not going to review the film itself as one's own views differ to another's.There are a five "let downs" which is me probably being picky.1. No commentary track.2. No documentary3. No music videos for "The City Of Crime" - Dan Aykroyd & Tom Hanks; "Just The Facts" - Patti LaBelle; "Dragnet" - The Art of Noise4. The budget price DVD cover being used as the basis for the Blu-ray artwork, with the icon badge logo missing the "Dragnet" text that was included at the top of it as part of the design. (If anyone at Fabulous Films is interested I am a fully qualified graphic designer and could come up with better artwork)5. The "special features" are the same as the DVD: cast & crew info (not thrilling) but at least the trailer is still included. So as I said those five "let downs" are my own opinion and that is why I am giving this 5 stars.

JUST THE FACTS MAAM!!!!
Hilarious 80s comedy based on the 60s TV show of the same name. Dan Ackroyd is brilliant as the straight laced Joe Friday and Tom Hanks matches him as the rebellious Pep Strebeck. This was when Hank's still did comedy before he became all Oscar Famous and serious. It really does show how good 80s comedy was and how good a Movie could be based on an old TV show. Remember this was before Mission Impossible, Charlie's Angels, The A-Team etc. Special mention has to go to Christopher Plummer as the camp villain Rev Jonathan Wurley. Great support by future Baywatch lifeguard Alexandra Paul, Ex Superman villain Jack O Halloran and the original late Dragnet actor Harry Morgan. The only reason I have given it 4 stars is sadly their are no Blu Ray extra ps (which for the price it is a shame). Otherwise it would have been 5. Dum Deh Dum Dum!!!

Just as funny now as it was then
Great comedy spoof of the tv series, Dan Akroyd is brilliant. Well worth the addition to a film collection.

One of my favourites from the 1980s
An absolute classic film which I used to love as a kid and wanted to show it to my wife on DVD. Hanks and Aykroyd are quality actors on their own but together, in my opinion, they produced a comedic masterpiece.

Just the facts...
I remember this fondly from seeing it at the cinema in the late 80s - following a chance watch on TV, I bought the DVD and enjoyed it all over again. Aykroyd is superb, as ever and Hanks is very appealing, whilst Manciewicz makes a decent stab of his directing debut. All together now - "Connie Swales, don't you mean the virgin Connie Swales?"Great fun.
