Alice in Chains have been founded in Seattle in 1987. Their success was based on a misunderstanding. They benefited from the grunge boom in their home town, even if they represented the aesthetic and image of a classic hard rock band such as the Black Sabbath/Led Zeppelin style. In no respect they fulfilled the nimbus, that was created and cared for by Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney or Soundgarden. However they really embodied the cliché of sex, drugs & rock’n’roll. Alice in Chains played their last concert in the original line up on 3. July 1996 in Kansas City. The front man Layne Staley, who was a drug addict for years, died on 5. April 2002. It took 14 years before the band recorded another album with the lead singer William Du Vall. The band brought back their classics on the live stage stronger than ever before.
