Rules are iffy; A Luck based game
In playing Buccaneer's Booty card game, we realized that the entire game is really luck based. If you get bad cards, you're kinda of out of luck. That doesn't mean it isn't fun, it is more of setting expectations. The cards are attractive, though they tend to stick together when shuffling. The rules are a bit iffy. There are several instances where you just have to make your best guess and move on.

Bought this to play with the family when they come into town. It’s good for all ages and really easy to learn. The games are short so really perfect for casual game nights.

Rules Don't Explain Anything
I am not sure the other reviews on here are real because of how generic they appear. I am not certain that any of the others have actually played the game because the mechanics are confusing. I say this knowing that this is a children’s game. I understand the rules are basic, but that doesn’t mean they have to be vague and unclear which they most certainly are. I knew that would be the case when you see the amount of different cards and the fact the rules can fit on a single playing card. The rules are very brief and do not explain important game play mechanics in detail, such as what happens if you draw multiple cards at once or how to handle simultaneous actions. The rules do not clearly define what constitutes a "Peril Card" versus a "Cursed Treasure Card". It mentions "Peril Card" and "Cursed Treasure Card" separately but does not list which cards fall under these categories explicitly. The turn structure is not fully detailed. For example, what happens after a player draws a card? Can they play cards immediately? The condition "only one pirate is standing" is vague. How do players get eliminated? Is it when they run out of cards or some other condition? The timing of certain actions (like "Parrot Dodge" or "Mermaid’s Charm") is not specified. Can these be played out of turn, or only on a player’s turn? The rules state that the game ends when the draw pile runs dry, but do not clarify what happens if multiple players have the same number of points. How is a tie resolved? The interaction between certain cards (like "Stormy Seas" and "Map Shuffle") and their implications on the draw pile and player hands are not clearly explained. Many cards (like "Cursed Coin", "Phantom Emerald", and "Jinxed Ruby") have unique effects, but the exact mechanics of these effects (such as "return two random cards" or "gift it to another player") are not detailed enough. Does "return two random cards" mean to the draw pile or discard pile? How is "random" determined? There seems to be a high number of action cards relative to treasure cards, which might make the game feel chaotic or unbalanced. Some cards have unclear effects, for example "Cannon Barrage" makes another player draw two extra cards compared to others which could be a benefit because they could draw treasure cards. The rules mention facing danger with "Peril Cards," but do not clarify which cards are considered perils and how they should be dealt with specifically. At the end of the day, this is a children’s game, but it should still be playable. I am open to revising my review if I am ultimately provided with a ruleset that is clear and explanatory.

Family Fun Card Game
I wanted to leave a review because we had an absolute blast playing this card game! This was such a different take than your traditional card game. The gold, the coins, and skipping turns were such a fun twist! The kids enjoyed reading everything in a pirate voice. They were so excited to find the “forbidden treasure”. If you want a fun, entertaining card game that’s going to keep you on your toes - this is it! We are definitely incorporating this card game into our game nights!

Rules Need Clarification
This is definitely a fun game to play. After reading and rereading the rules, I could see how a few people were confused, but I got what the Instructions meant, and after everyone agreed we had no trouble understanding and coming to an agreement on what was said and printed in the very short rule book.1. Choose Who Goes First2. Mix the Cards Up & Everyone Gets 5 Cards.3. Draw Pile in the Center. On Your Turn:You have 2 things to do-Draw from the Pile: I which you will execute whatever it says on the card- Treasure Card put it in front of you creating your Loot Pile (this is how you win, end of game whoever has the most wins) - the game doesn't specify creating a Loot Pile or keeping it in hand, so that's what we did.Peril Cards are all others besides the ones that obviously say "Cursed Treasure Card."Then, there are the Cursed Treasure Cards. After drawing one of these, complete the action.Next, take and play a card from your hand. Any card (these are What the Draw Pile considers peril or Cursed Treasure cards).Place any Treasure cards in your Loot Pile. (Added this- cuz this wasn't clearly stated)End your turn. ( We stated you could only have 5 cards in your hand at the end of your turn. You could have more, not less.)Play ends when Draw Pile ends or Only One Pirate is Standing: the Draw Pile ending was obvious, but last pirate standing, we were bit confused on, but then we realized you could lose all your Treasure or cards. So, the rules DEFINITELY need clarification.Still, when we made a few adjustments and agreed in what we wanted it was overall really simple and fun to play.

So fun!
Love the vivid fun images. So much fun to play! We’ve already played multiple times, my niece is an avid card player, and she said she’s never played anything like this. It was different and kept her attention & she wanted to play again and again!
