Great for those new to RPG
Ran this to a few friends who are new to RPGs, the simpler rules and simpler skills, made it for an easy to learn experience and everyone had a great time.

Nice intro to RPG
This is a nice intro to the Arkham Horror world of role-playing games. Component quality is nice, but it's limited. You can play through the included scenarios, but you don't really have the option to make your own with the included items. All the characters are pre-generated, so you're not really making any of them your own. On the plus side, that reduces setup time. In video game terms, this would be kind of like an extended tutorial. Or like the shareware copies back in the day where you get to sample self-contained missions to see if you like the game enough to buy the whole thing. Good intro, good price, great production value without having to sink too much money into it right away at a good price.

Solid Starter Set
Just got it in the post today. I'm impressed. Really nice production value and attention to detail. The box is dense and packed with maps, dice, pre made characters and more. Even the rulebook has a stitch binding over staples. I haven't had a chance to run it yet but look forward to the opportunity. A great starter set and new ruleset for the Cthulhu mythos. I look forward to more. Don't let a silly review about clear packing stickers deter you...

Neat Gamemaster Training Set
This product is essentially an adventure pack that incorporates the basic Arkham Horror RPG system rules and provides guidance for a first-time gamemaster. If you're experienced with RPGs and interested in the Arkham Horror system, you should probably go with the core rulebook, which also includes a starter adventure. (Note that this system is very different from the Call of Cthulhu RPG that's been around for years.) If you're relatively new to RPGs, and curious about trying your hand at GMing, this set is for you. The first few pages describe the basic concepts of the game, with the rest of the book containing the adventure and rules. (Everything beyond the intro is for GM eyes only.) The adventure consists of a series of scenes, each of which introduces a portion of the rules. The structure works for learning the system, but you definitely want to read through the entire book before sitting down with people to run a session. Don't make the other players sit around while you figure out the details. This set includes a bunch of items, including maps and tokens for playing out combats, status markers, and paper props that represent clues the characters can find during the adventure. The props can definitely make the GM's life easier, but the old-school cardboard sliding tile puzzles are another story -- they're kinda neat in theory, but might be more hassle than they're worth. To be honest, the amount of stuff in the box could be overwhelming for a novice GM. 24 dice in two colors are included. That's really the bare minimum you need, because each character (including some NPCs) uses a few of them to track their own actions. If you have more than one or two players, you'll definitely want to add more dice. That's easy enough, since the system uses only six-siders, although I would've rather had more dice than some of the cardboard items. I'm not familiar with the system, so I don't know how much of the full ruleset is included here, but it's enough to handle skill checks and combat. The set comes with preprinted character sheets and creature/NPC (non-player character, controlled by the GM) cards specific to the scenario, so the book doesn't go into much detail about creating characters or other creatures. You could theoretically create a small followup adventure using only the materials in this box, but it'd probably be less work to just move on to the full ruleset. Other than the dice, and perhaps the small GM screen, there isn't much replay value here. Finally, while this set offers helpful logistical guidance for a novice GM in terms of using the Arkham Horror rules, there's a lot more to the art of gamemastering than it can properly cover. If you're new to RPGs, I highly recommend that you also explore online videos and articles about the social and less obvious aspects of running games. Think about how to handle unexpected situations, such as resolving player actions that the book doesn't anticipate, or adjudicating disagreements.

Missing Investigator - Growing Pains - Has Potential
The thing that really brings this down is that I am missing one of the 5 investigators. I have contacted Edge to see if they would send Daisy Walker to me. I'll update my review when i have more info. The content seems okay in this starter set. There is a lot of potential here for a Pulp Fiction Horror TTRPG, and I am excited for the release of the core rule book. There is some room for clarification/errata updates on this first printing, both on the rules/scenario book and on the GM Board. There are creatures that don't seem to belong in this scenario, and it would have been nice if they were looped into the story better. The slider puzzles in this starter set are okay but they really could have used more help from an escape room builder to make the content more unique and interesting, instead of reusing the same puzzle. They didn't include enough dice

A strange product in some ways, which brings some board game style to a tradtional TTRPG. High quality components and useful for a one off one shot adeventure at any table. Worth your time if you are a fan of the Arkham Horror universe or simply want a break from the traditional rules sets.

After receiving the Hungering Abyss, I read through the RPG and it is a fairly well thought out single shot for a group of 5 PC’s plus the GM. Some of the puzzles are far more elaborate than that of a typical RPG and I may alter to streamline the gameplay a bit more. This is a personal choice based on my intended playgroup and not by any means a necessity. Already looking for a copy of the core rules book to continue with the Arkham Horror rpg world.
