If you own a DSLR and like to do run and gun filming this product has to be in your bag. Do keep in mind that at the end of the day it's a directional microphone mounted on your camera and such a devise has inherent limitations. If you're doing an interview, it cannot match up to the low noise clarity of a lavalier but if you have one of these mikes fixed on your camera and your subject is close enough, you'll definitely pick up good audio given that your ambiance noise is not too high. Otherwise with proper manual leveling, you can pick up good general ambiance sounds with your footage. Point-wise, he advantages are the following1. You don't have to go through syncing your audio in post2. It's light3. The connecting cord is good quality4. The Rycote designed mount is just super.5. A camera mounted directional mike has inherent limits so this price makes good senseOne problem, the RODE sheath does not prevent nasty wind noises if you're recording outdoors even if wind conditions are slight. For such conditions, you have to take care. I'd definitely buy the RODE Video Mic Go DEAD CAT ( I wish they'd call it by some other name). Sadly at the moment, I don't see it selling in India.In short, it's a must have and an amazing buy if you know what you can get out of it.

I watched so many youtube videos before ordering this mic and let me tell you the most common issue described in them was the hissing/clicking noise, let me tell you that has got nothing to do with the mic but with the pre-amp on your camera, when i tried recording through this mic to an external recorder there was no hiss/click noise whatsoever, also the noise cancellation on this one is pretty awesome especially when you are in moderately noisy environment, this is so good that it gives you near studio quality recording quality for the price. next is the manufacturer, Rode, they are awesome! i faced an issue regarding the tightening ring which was jammed when i received the product, but on me contacting Rode via e-mail & Twitter, they responded promptly suggesting a fix and it worked! they also sent me the number and address for their service centre near my location, which i did not have to visit as my issue was fixed. i highly recommend this microphone and i currently use it for recording directly into my DSLR and my phones where it works like a charm. One last piece of advise, since this item is non returnable on amazon, try buying it from an offline store near you as in case of any problem you will just be oscillating between amazon customer service and seller, who in my case was pathetic, other than that, Just go For it!!!

This was the specific reason I purchased this as I wanted to do audio recording at home and of course lack a soundproof space to be able to do it. Going for such a product as a first time user with no return option is a bummer because it is of no use to me in a way. My iphone/macbook mic was good enough in terms of quality comparison otherwise. Another load is to buy at-least two other accessories if it has to mac book compatible which is not Rode's fault directly but still as a user, the whole exercise becomes tedious for me. I really wish I could return it, such a waste when it could have been better used by someone else.

sound quality of my Canon M50 camera is better than this mic. Also when i connect it witg camera, a lot of eco is there instead of our voice.boya m1 mic was quite good and cheaper option for me, I regret my decision of buying this mic.totally waste of money.

I opted this microphone to be able to have better audio during video interviews. When I used it on my Panasonic HC-X920M video camera, I got very disturbing sound (some undesirable echo etc. which I could not understand). I disabled Auto Gain Control on my camera but the problem persisted. Then, I connected this mic with my digital voice recorder and then the recorder with the camera and all problems vanished and I got crystal clear sound from more than 10 ft distance.So, the recommendation is - Go for the mic if you already have got a digital voice recorder and if your camera permits disabling Auto Gain. In Manual mode, reduce the mic sensitivity to -20dB or 22 dB. It should work fine.Please also try to bargain at your photo goods shop. You may even get it for Rs. 3,600 or 4000/-.

It's an awesome product but I had to return because of my own mistake. It probably needed a Phantom 48V power supply to be connected to it to work with a laptop. It wasn't working either with the laptop nor the dslr. I returned it thinking it was a defective piece, but the seller assured me that it was just fine. Rode is a fine company, so go for this product.I have purchased another condenser now which required an extra juice and it was specifically mentioned by someone in the review section.
