Makes a wonderful iced tea!
I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this Hojicha tea. This roasted green tea is flavorful. My favorite way to drink it is as iced tea, although I like it hot, as well. The tea is a finely ground tea and mixes easily with water. It tastes really good when I add a little lemon to the ice...yum!!This tea is made in Japan.

Tasty powdered, roasted Kukicha and Sencha green tea
I love Japanese green teas and whenever I get an opportunity to try a new varietal I go for it. This time I found the Tomosan Hojicha Tea which is a blend of Kukicha and Sencha premium green tea. The tea comes in powdered form and not like whole loose leaves. This is more like the Matcha green tea powder but with the roasted flavor of Sencha and Genmai Cha.My first time making the Tomosan Hojicha tea was a trial in inexperience. I mistakenly took a whole teaspoon of the powder and dunked it into some hot water and it was like I was looking into mudwater. I just simply put too much powder since I didn't know how much to use. I wish there was s guide on the back of the package that would tell you how much measured amount you need per ounce of water. Even including a guide of how to properly make the tea would have been nice. Alas, my mudwater tea was tasty and still enjoyable, but I could instantly tell that I had too much powder in it since the powder didn't dissolve all the way into the water and formed small globs of mud globules at the bottom of the cup.Taste-wise the Tomosan Hojicha tea has that underlying green tea taste but also that earthy flavor you get from a proper roasting. The taste is full body and the aroma is quite pleasing and relaxing. I really enjoyed my cups of tea, even though it was made incorrectly. Next time I'm going to use a more conservative amount. I think you could safely use one of the small spoon/scoops used used in the making of matcha green tea like the ones in those tea ceremonies. Anyways, enjoy the tea, I sure did!

A Versatile and Tasty Green Tea from Japan
There are actually quite a few ways you can make this tea, and you can visit the manufacturer's website to watch a short video on some of these ways. Hojicha tea is a green tea, though one of the few that looks more brown than green. What you get in this package is 3.5 ounces of powdered Hojicha.I first made this tea by steeping it for about 30 seconds (that's right -- this is a quick steep time; also take care not to use very hot boiling water). As you can see in photo it's more of a reddish brown tea. The taste is earthy and just a tad sweet. I made a second cup of the tea and put it in the fridge -- it is also delicious as an iced tea. The third time I added 1/2 tsp powder to my frother with some oat milk and water and a little coconut sugar -- yum! That is my new favorite way to drink this!I share all this as an example of some of the different ways you can use this green tea (it can also be whisked like a matcha tea). As for the powder itself, this seems to be very good quality tea. It comes from Japan in a nicely sealed/zippered bag. Instructions are to keep in fridge after you open it.Very happy with this, and happy to have tried something new. A definite recommend!

Quick & Easy to make tea! Good flavor! Powder! Nutritional Facts Below!
The "TOMOSAN Hojicha Tea - Japanese Organic Loose Leaf Premium Green Tea - Roasted Kukicha & Sencha Blend, Low Caffeine, USDA Certified, Uji-Kyoto, 100g/3.5oz" is in powder form. One thing I like about having some powdered teas is how quickly I am able to make them and how easy they stir in. It is a bit frothy when I first stir it but that settles as it cools enough to make it drinkable. I drink a lot of tea and normally enjoy the process whether it is just steeping or grinding my own products or making my own blends. But at times I'm rushed or to tired and not up to the time it takes. That's where this flavorful tea comes in. And since it's low caffeine I can use it in the later afternoons without worry. There were no instructions for making tea on the bag but that's usually a matter of taste anyway. I started with about 1/2 tsp. to 3/4 cup of hot water but now I usually use about a cup of water. It is strong tasting unless one is used to this type of tea so new users may want to start with small amounts until you have found your preference. I have not used this in baking.I appreciate they put the nutrition facts on the package, but I do wish they had included them on the listing. And included the actual caffeine content. The numbers surprised me until I saw it said the package is 1 serving. So, the numbers are for the entire 3.5oz packageNutrition Facts per my package ~ Serving: 1Serving Size ~ 100g (size of the entire package)Calories per serving ~ 393Total Fat ~ 0gSaturated Fat ~ 0gTrans Fat ~ 0gCholesterol ~ 0gSodium ~ 5mgTotal Carbohydrate ~ 70.5gDietary Fiber ~ 38.4gTotal Sugars ~ 0gProtein ~ 20.6gVitamin D ~ 0gCalcium ~ 500mgIron ~8.7mgPotassium ~1500mgThe tea arrives in a foil-type package with a well-working resealable zipper closure.
