This is my 4th generation Delonghi Espresso Maker - still the best.
This new version is more quiet.

Very worthwhile buy
The instructions were very clear and the machine works as advertised. Only negative is that because it is built for European 220v outlets, the converter that is required is another small appliance that takes up significant counter space

If You Want Coffee AND Espresso Start Here
I’d buy this again.Year 3 update: I still recommend this machine. Here are several notes after almost daily operation for 33 months.1) Another reviewer complained that the hot water spigot was too hard to pull off (necessary to plug in the milk dispenser). Yes, it takes a slow steady pull to remove, but if it’s sticking just wash it with warm soapy water to remove any build up. Problem solved.2) my machine went through a six month period where it indicated a need for frequent descaling. Wash all the components as recommended. Keep the interior coffee delivery device free of coffee grounds, and run the rinse cycle once a week. Less descaling notifications.3) I purchased two extra milk dispenser feeding tubes. By switching out the tube frequently, and washing the one I removed, I never experienced the progressive failure to produce good froth and foam that some reviewers complained about. On to my original review:I needed coffee, my wife wanted espresso drinks. Read below about the coffee option on this machine.First, we’d never spent this much on any coffee or espresso machine. But our ten year old capresso and 12 year old nespresso both started failing at the same time. So we took the plunge. We were looking at the Magnifica and the Dinamica. After reading dozens of reviews and watching a lot of videos we settled on the Eletta. Choices, choices, choices. There are essentially three versions of the Eletta. We got this one, the Ecam44660, which is the least expensive of the three. The Evo and Cappuccino Top versions cost $300 and $600 more. The difference? More metal in the construction, tactile pre-programmed buttons as opposed to touch sensitive, and a manual frothing option. After really digging into the exact differences I can’t justify the extra expense. Some might though. What do I like? Once it’s set up (which took me thirty minutes, not the five some people claim) the simple touch a button brewing is pretty great. The one button touch to clean either the coffee spouts or milk dispenser, also great. Emptying the coffee pucks is simple and not very messy. And, once I dialed in my taste preferences, the coffee and espresso drinks were really very good. What don’t I like? The European sizes for coffee and espresso. If you go to a coffee store and order large or grande sizes you’ll be serving yourself two portions from this machine to achieve those sizes. The dosing and quantity of coffee and water are a bit confusing too. I drink coffee. I thought the extra long coffee function at extra strength would be right. Good but not quite. Here’s the confusing part: the long coffee function (not EXTRA long) actually uses a staggered extraction process to simulate a drip coffee maker, and it’s very very good. When the machines are advertised this odd brewing option is only mentioned on the very expensive Evo. All three versions of the machine do this though. Since we wanted a machine that made coffee and espresso this was important to us. Still have to select two portions to fit my cup, but it’s great. The machine does go through water faster than I would have expected, but that’s the price of those self cleaning options.Tips: don’t adjust the bean grinder setting unless the unit is in the actual grinding process. Counter-intuitive but apparently it will damage the machine if you do. The test strip for water hardness is taped into the black and white instruction manual. I spent ten minutes hunting for it. The manual says to use the filter only if the water is harder than the minimum hardness. Our water isn’t hard but I use the filter anyway to reduce calcium build up.The machine cleans the coffee nozzles upon startup and shutdown. If you don’t want the drip tray to fill up quickly you might want to put a cup under the nozzles before and after use. Some people complain that the coffee isn’t hot, the milk isn’t hot or not strong enough. The manual includes several remedies for all of these issues. Some users also uses suggest their unit was a used model. If you’re buying it from a reputable source, they aren’t used. The manufacture runs coffee through the units to test them and disclose that there may be grounds left in the unit.So far we’re really happy with this pricey multi function machine.
