Fast, Powerful, Flawless Performance - Exceeded My Expectations-- IN DEPTH REVIEW
First off, I want to address several things I've seen in the bad reviews of the Hero 4 Black. 1. SD card errors - Alright. Your getting a very powerful, very fast camera with the Hero 4 Black, and you need a very powerful, very fast SD card to match. I would NOT recommend buying the GoPro Recommended SD card if your planning on getting the Hero 4 Black. You might have issues with the most extreme filming rates, such as 4K (4K = 4X the resolution of 1080p HD), even though it specifically claims it can handle 4K, my experience differs. Get an SD card that can actually handle 4K and also says it in it's product description. Sandisk makes a very good one (Extreme Pro), and although it's more expensive, I believe it's what is truly needed for 4K, and it's 100% worth it to not have any issues at all, and to get flawless performance out of your Hero 4 Black at all times. 2. Battery Life - Yes, the Hero 4 Black does use battery faster than the previous models, but that is because of the updated features included in it (faster processor, faster frame rates). Go Pro batteries are very cheap (official GoPro batteries - $15, just as good knockoffs - $8-$10), and all you have to do is get an extra few batteries for more extended use. If your problem is you don't want to (or can't because of what your filming) switch out batteries like that, then just get the GoPro Battery BacPac (the new, 15% more capacity one) and you will basically double your battery life. You can even plug certain power banks into your Battery BacPac to keep it constantly running on that. Huge convenience. 3. The camera heating up - This camera is incredibly small, and can handle incredibly fast rates such as 4K and 2.7K, which a lot of bigger cameras can't even do, and this of course will heat up the unit while it's in use. This is true with almost any electronic with a battery (your smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.) GoPro has a safety feature that will shut down your camera if it happens to get too hot, so that it can't possibly do any damage to your camera. I don't know what the exact temperature level is that it shuts down at, but it must be real high, because i've gotten mine really hot filming outside in the summer sun and it still performed flawlessly and didn't shut down. My opinion - I wouldn't worry too much about the overheating issue. It's way overblown in some of these reviews in my opinion. *NOTE* It's a good idea to take the battery out of your camera while it is not in use. There's a bug GoPro hasn't patched yet that can possibly turn your camera on by itself if the wi-fi is left on, but I have only found this happen once. The simple fix - turn off your Wi-Fi before turning off your camera. Here are some of the prime features of the Hero 4 Black: -simplified menu, easy to scroll through and change settings. -New Auto Low Light settings. -built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, for easy viewing and sharing. -Super slow motion frame rates - 1080/120fps, and 720/240fps. -QuikCapture - turn on and start recording by pressing top button, turn on and take time lapse photos by holding top button for 2 seconds. -HiLight Tag - My favorite. put a marker in your footage so you can easily take out/retrieve the part you want, just by pressing the side button during playback. -Greater audio performance - The Hero 4 Black has 2x the dynamic range, and the built-in microphone is MUCH better than the previous models. Sound is crisp and clear. - The Hero 4 Black also has another built-in feature that enables it to be used with a greater range of professional microphones than it's predecessors. Now, onto the actual review of the camera. Right out of the box, it doesn't come with much. Just the camera, dive housing, a charging/sync cable, and a manual. It DOES NOT come with a micro SD card, so your gonna have to purchase one when you purchase the camera if you want to be able to use it. Turning on the camera, it powers up in about 2 seconds and is ready to go. One of the only cons i've noticed is the connection between the camera and the GoPro App (for live video streaming) can be spotty at times. It hasn't given me enough problems to take a star away or mess up any of what i've filmed, but it was kind of annoying (until I got the LCD BacPac - now I have no issues). The App also cannot live stream the faster frame rates, such as 4K and certain 2.7K rates (or at least won't over my connection). Something I really love about the Hero 4 Black (and I guess GoPro in general) is the way the camera gets updated. You will get a little notification on your phone that an update is available. All you do is turn on your camera, turn on the camera's Wi-Fi, click on the notification, and it will update through the Wi-Fi. No plugging up to the computer for updates anymore! I also love that with my update, I received new ISO settings (low light), as well as the ability to edit short clips directly on the LCD BacPac. Every update increases the camera's performance and even gives you new settings to be able to film better. Can't beat that. In my experience, this camera is 100% worth the money, and you will love every minute using it. There are hundreds of accessories for the GoPro now, so you can really get the most out of your camera. It truly is a professional action camera, so I wouldn't recommend it to anybody who has no previous camera experience. You're gonna want to know something about manual settings for cameras and what they do when you manipulate them. This camera exceeded my expectations and more, and I would recommend it to anybody and everybody, especially those who are looking for a high quality camera with tons of capabilities.

Almost perfect.
I have had so much fun with this thing! 240fps 720 video is awesome, time lapse is awesome, video quality is amazing. This camera proves it is not all about mega pixels. I got the extreme bundle and the extra wasabi brand batteries and charger that came with the bundle have given me no problems. I would say that it seems like the wasabi batteries last slightly longer than the stock battery. I was using the camera to record in 1080p 30 fps on a dirt bike and could get at least half an hour of power from these batteries constantly filming. I got everything that was supposed to be included with the bundle. The selfie stick also acts as a tripod which can be useful for time lapses etc. Anyways, not disappointed with this camera at all. Sure it gets a little warm but what do you expect from an air cooled processor? Memory card it came with seems to be working great too! Only thing i can't figure out is why sometimes longer videos just cut off and start a new video but no big deal. 1/7/2017 update The video cuts like that on purpose because it can only record maximum files of 4 gigs. It will continue to video so no problem. I am not taking a star off for this little rant because I hardly even use the wifi feature. When it is connected to my phone through wifi, I get the infamous helicopter noise on video playback. Thing is past warranty and I can't get it fixed or replaced for free. Id rather just wait it out and upgrade in another year or 2. Wish I would have been more patient though. 1 and a half years later and these are only going for 367. Bought mine for 500. Ah well.

If I could do it again I'd grab the Hero 4 Silver instead
I really wanted to love this camera, but I just really, really like it. The video and footprint of this thing make it wonderful on trips, but the occasional freezing of the unit bothered me as it always chose to do so randomly. I followed the formatting instructions for the media cards on the website and have just found that 4K just taxes the poor unit even with Class10 media and higher. That being said at 2.7K and below it seems to freeze less often, but it still happens occasionally. I'm still keeping the unit, but just be aware that it may happen and take that into account. Also this unit doesn't come with the LCD. Another disappointing thing is once 4K footage is imported into your timeline(Adobe Premiere Pro for me) the sheer size and processing required slows down the program to a halt even at 1/4 resolution. Maybe it's just my experience, but here's the specs of my system just in case :i7-3635QM, 8GB RAM, GT 630M, 250GB Sandisk SSD, 1TB 5400 RPM HDD) I really wanted to delve into the 4K video without having to get a completely new computer setup. Oh well, it's still a snazzy little gadget.

Older model but still works well
I’ve been using the GoPro Hero 4 for quite a while now, and it continues to impress me every time I put it to work. Even by today’s standards, the video quality is sharp and vibrant, especially in good lighting. It captures action footage extremely well, whether I’m on the water, in the shop, or out riding. The build quality is exactly what you’d expect from GoPro, rugged and dependable. It’s taken its fair share of bumps and still performs flawlessly. The controls are simple and straightforward, which makes it easy to operate even when you’re focused on the task at hand. Battery life is decent for its age, and having spare batteries on hand makes it a non issue for longer sessions. I also like how many mounting options are available, making it versatile for just about any setup you need. If you’re looking for a reliable action camera without spending top dollar on the newest model, the Hero 4 is still a great choice. It gets the job done and does it well.

Love this little camera
Pros: Its a great camera, comes with a sturdy case and a variety of recording modes. I picked this over the Hero 4 Silver due to the higher quality options. Love the bluetooth connection to the GoPro App on my iphone. Cons: Once you use the bluetooth connection the battery seems to drain pretty quickly. Also while this camera can record in 4K, it seems the iphone cannot handle this high of a quality for videos. When saving directly from GoPro to Iphone through the app, the resolution drops severely. Suggestions: -Record video in 1080K if you are planning on saving it to your iphone directly. When saving the video, you can hit the high resolution and it comes out great. Pictures come out perfect in 4K. -Buy extra batteries! If you use the bluetooth connection, you will need them. I purchased teh wasabi power battery 2 pack with the dual charger. Pretty handy. -If you don't feel the need to have the 4K capability or on the fence, you should just buy the silver. My 2010 Macbook cannot handle the 4K and neither can my Iphone 6.

there'a good chance that this is what is causing the camera ...
If you're having a really difficult time deciding between the 4 Silver edition or Black, ill explain to you why the Black is the one to go with if you can afford it. Most of the time you'll be recording in wide angle POV, you just have to point the camera in the general vicinity and chances are you will get what you're aiming for on film. Ive also found myself mounting the cam on myself(head strap), on a pole(Sandmarc), so I have not really needed a screen to frame my shots. I can't stress this enough, if you want higher quality but are debating on the silver for the fact that it has the screen, stop debating, get this one and you won't regret it. Keep in mind you can always use the app (wifi), Ive seen people complain about wifi connectivity issues. I haven't had any problems in this area(Android). The only times I use the app is to review the clips I have recorded. As to the functionality of the camera. It's outstanding, I first took the camera on a trip to San Francisco and recorded in Wide-1080P 30FPS & 60FPS. When I got home and started editing the video clips on Go Pro Studio, the clips I shot in 30FPS didn't have any audio and had a lot of lag. I contacted Go Pro and they suggested for me to try and update the camera. I did and that fixed the issue. In fact, for those that are having freezing issues or any kind of problems with the camera right out of the box, make sure you have updated the camera, there'a good chance that this is what is causing the camera to not function properly. Some other complaints I have seen are overheating issues. I haven't had any, although I must say the highest resolution I have recorded in is 1080 120FPS. As far as the battery, it's not great, make sure you get a few extras. I did notice one of the few times I used the wifi app extensively, the battery drained a lot faster. One last thing, the Go Pro Customer support is outstanding. I first called them during my trip to San Francisco since I had just gotten the camera and didn't know how to use it. And they were very helpful, giving me detailed info and instructions on how to operate the Go Pro. They even emailed me additional information. As i mentioned earlier, I had to also contact them on the issue of the clips with no audio and some lag and they spent their time with me on trying to get the issue ironed out. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase and would highly recommend it if you're looking for this type of camera.

Too many accessories and Design could have been better
The GoPro Hero 4K camera is truly a masterpiece and i want to give it 4 and maybe even 5 stars. The reason i give it only 3 is because, i consider this camera to be the equivalent of what skylanders is to video games. You have to buy so many different accessories in order to use its various possible potential different type of applications. Granted GoPro makes it easy by offering different type of accessory packs to accommodate the different uses you may want it for. All these accessories take away from the compactness and portability of the camera. Now you need a carrying case for the camera as well as all the accessories. Maybe i am being to harsh and as i use the camera more and more i will just eliminate and get rid of the accessories i do not need and streamline the way i use the device....Maybe But to be fair to those who want a review of the camera functionality..it is truly amazing. I took this to an indoor water park and shot a small video of my kids under water and the clarity and resolution was just incredible...it was blue-ray like quality. The pictures are really crisp and clear also...the battery life could be better and i do not like the fact that it does not have an LCD built in so that i can see the photos i am taking or the videos i am recording - which i knew before i bought the camera, but thought i could do without it and realized i was wrong afterwards.

3 Gopros so far. All with issues.
Spend your money elsewhere. I've gone through 3 replacement Gopros all with issues! The first one had a loud noise when recording, almost like a helicopter noise. So I returned it and received a new one which had the same exact problem! Returned that one aswell and thought I had finally received a properly functioning GoPro! But I was wrong, this current GoPro Hero 4 Black Editon is constantly freezing and is unresponsive, quite annoying when your trying to hit the record button only to find out that nothing is happening and it is frozen. Pros: - Solidly built small Action camera - 1080p up to 120fps! - 4k Superview - 1080p Superview Cons: - Battery doesn't last more than 1hr on record - Random Freezing - Gets really hot recording more than 1080p (2.4k, 4k) - 4K capable for only a short amount of time, maybe 10-15 min before the unit gets too hot and turns off to avoid damage - Price, $500 for a camera that can't properly work at times is not worth it - Mic quality is terrible - Files are huge, uncompressed 10min files will be around 5-10 GBs on 1080p SV 60fps Overall this new GoPro line is not worth it. I loved the GoPro Hero 3+ so I decided to get this but I think I will be going back to the 3+ since Its extremely reliable, I've had friends talk about how much they abuse their 3+ and it still works flawlessly! One even said it's missing the backside of the camera and all the electronics are exposed and even then it's STILL working. This Hero 4 can't even properly Function when you most need It. I really wanted to like this new GoPro Hero 4, but it's more of an annoyance if anything. If you're looking for a reliable action camera you can just hit record and not worry about it then this is not your camera, it will overheat, it will turn off on you without notice even when your recording. It will freeze 50% of the time, and the only way to get it working again is to take the battery out and put it back in, quite annoying when your trying to quickly capture something. This has become such a hassle to work with that quite frankly I'm just sick and tired of dealing with It, returning this completely for a full refund. GoPro is completely aware of all these issues aswell, yet they still are flooding the market with these defective Gopros. I'll take my money elsewhere from now on, seems like quality control has gone downhill, or maybe they just stopped caring anymore, either way I'm done with GoPro unless they fix all these issues plaguing the new Gopros. For the record, there are Gopro hero 4's out there that function flawlessly! But it's a 50/50 chance you'll get a fully working one, and to be quite honest, for $500 you shouldn't have to take chances.

NO COMPRAR

Amazing Quality for such a small device!
Amazing power for such a small camera! I got this camera to use with a Drone, I wanted to bed video quality and highest image resolution without going to the nest Gimbal. The 4K looks absolutely stunning, and it is a breeze to setup, also has a very nifty wifi access with the GoPro app, which allows remote shooting, already a useful tool!

Impressed with my first gopro
This is the first gopro i ever owned and after reading about all the problems people had with this camera freezing, i was nervous about spending the 600€ to get this camera. But realized the reason people had freezing problems with this camera was because they werent using memory cards with a fast enough (minimum 50 mb/s) write speed. So as long as you have a good memory card its fine. And one week into my gopro ownership, i am extremely happy with it. Its so much smaller than i expected it to be, which is a huge bonus and makes recording video at any time and any place so simple. Only problem ive had with this in the early days is how short the battery life is. Recording at 4k it lasts just over an hour. I did order more replacement batteries for it, so as long as you do that too, you shouldnt have any problems with this camera
