Best thing on the market to prevent ear infections from swimming etc
I enjoy scuba diving and kayaking and when snorkelling in the sea I am often in the water for hours at a time. This leaves me susceptible to swimmers ear. When I get an ear infection it is varies from uncomfortable to extremely painful, involves a visit to a doctor for antibiotics and curtails my wet activities for at least a couple of weeks (and often much longer). I now use Swim Ear as soon as possible after getting out of the water. I first get rid of most of the water with a towel and then give each ear two or three drops of this excellent product. When I use it regularly I do not get ear infections. When I lapse, I will get away with it for a while and then end up paying the price with an infection. Swim Ear certainly helps me avoid ear infections but it is designed to be preventative not curative. So if you are prone to ear infections then get some of this, use every time it and avoid them!It works in a very simple way. The product is isopropyl alcohol and when the drops you put in your ears mix with the water in your ears, both flow out pretty quickly and evaporate. This dries your ear-hole. The bugs which cause ear infections love nothing more than a warm dark damp place. Ear holes will always warm and dark but if you prevent dampness the bugs have no chance to colonise, breed and reek havoc. You only need a few drops to mix with the water in your ear. If you use too much then it will simply trickle out of your ears - no harm in a little but if too much is leaking out then you are simply wasting the stuff! So use as little as you need and no more and use it every time you swim and you will avoid nasty ear infections. A bottle lasts for ages and, as far as I am aware, the stuff does not deteriorateOne final bit of advice: Ear infections can be incredibly slow to clear if left untreated. They can also be extremely painful. If you start to get symptoms then get to your nearest doctor and get a prescription for antibiotics as soon as possible.

Finally, sweet relief!
Whilst on holiday recently, some seawater got into my middle ear causing 2-3 weeks of a blocked sensation and tinnitus. I imagine I was quite lucky for this not to develop into an infection; for whatever, I managed to evade this more serious symptom but it was still fairly uncomfortable. My first attempt to deal with the issue was to use a softener, but this was to no avail. The problem wasn't wax in the first place so did nothing to displace the trapped water. This product arrived today and has completely solved the issue. The first application gave immediate improvement and reduced symptoms by around 50 percent. The feeling of the water rushing out is very, very satisfying. Unlike some other reviewers who used it over the course of several days, I followed up twice, each successive application getting more of the water out. A couple of hours later and for the first time in weeks, I can move my head without tinnitus or discomfort.

Worked perfectly
This worked exactly as expected- no trapped water problems and ear infections. Will buy again.

Works brilliantly but it is very xpensive for what it is
Great product in terms of what it does. This removes surface tension of water allowing it to drain from your ear. Drys quickly as it is pure alcohol. So my complaint is the price for a few mls of what is basically a few mls of industrial strength alcohol.

Help your body mount its own defence against Otitis Externa
I have suffered from Otitis Externa, putting up with the unpleasant discharge, the excruciating itching and impairment to hearing for years. When it became too much I would visit the doctor who would prescribe Gentisone, an antibiotic ear drop. This would clear things up for a couple of months but all too soon the itching would return and I knew I was in for another prolonged painful spell.Between visits to the doctor I would try other 'remedies'. Things you probably should not try, just like you should not insert cotton buds into your ear, I am writing this review not to condone such behaviour but for other people like me, and you may recognise yourself here. Finally I bought Swim Ear. It contains no 'medicine'; according to the label it is 95% isopropyl alcohol and 5% glycerine. Its only stated purpose is to remove water from your ear canal. If you suffer from Otitis Externa you probably know water is the infection's friend, and if not then just ask any doctor. If you already have an infected, inflamed ear, the isopropyl alcohol will sting. Oh it will sting, in the way that 'proper medicine' like Gentisone does not. This of course inflames the ear - but it also removes the water from the ear canal, making life harder for the infection. I started using Swim Ear morning and evening, after showers and swimming of course and before bed. After a couple of days the infection was in retreat and the ear could recover between 'treatments'. The inflammation reduced, Swim Ear ceased to sting and stopped causing further inflammation. In about a week the infection was gone, all inflammation and itchiness gone and my hearing back to normal, only a little longer than my typical experience with Gentisone.I have now been using it for over a year. I don't think Otitis Externa has fully left me, and every so often I will feel the tell-tale itchiness that heralds an infection. But a couple of days' use of Swim Ear and the itchiness goes away. No need to visit the doctor, no need to complete a course of antibiotics, no need for any medication at all; I reckon my body fights the infection itself, and Swim Ear merely gives it a helping hand by removing the water.
