interesting spice
This is an interesting spice with a black pepper 'chase' / 'finish'. It seems a very specific taste but for some dishes it's a nice addition; I found it a particularly nice addition to Moroccan dishes.

Love Grains of Paradise-UPDATED
I'm allergic to pepper so Grains of Paradise have been a big blessing as a replacement for pepper. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is because the grains are smaller than peppercorns and the grinder doesn't do a good job of grinding them. They need to replace this packaging with a finer grinder. The Grains of Paradise have a great taste, though, and I've been able to eat them with no problem. They have also been able to be substituted for pepper in every recipe I have tried without a negative difference. I do have to use more than with some peppers, but the taste is great.UPDATE 11/2/17: I noticed that the packaging had been updated so I purchased another bottle to see if the grinder had been improved. I am thrilled to say that it has been. It seriously took me over half an hour to get a teaspoon of pepper with the original grinder. I got that much in my first minute with the new grinder. So now I have a great-tasting pepper alternative that I can actually use. Kuddos to Frontier Grains!

Poor grinder
Great sub for pepper but takes forever to grind enough to use!

A Great Value for a Fantastic Ingredient
This spice has recently found a home in the Craft Beer industry, with such brews as "Summer Ale" by Sam Adams. Inspired by Summer Ale, I brew a (frankly much better) pale ale recipe using nearly 1 teaspoon for a 5-gallon (2-case) batch of homebrew.Paradise Seed has a mild peppery spice to it, but it's aroma is purely tropical, with notes of pineapple and passion fruit. I tend to unscrew the lid of this jar and use a spice-grinder for a finer grind, and the aromas when I open the grinder are absolutely fantastic.Paradise Seed lends a fantastic flavor and aroma to an American Pale Ale, but is also purely fantastic on steaks. Cover steaks with salt and grains of paradise before grilling, and you're in for a wonderful treat. Also, as most homebrew stores sell Paradise Seed in .25 ounce bags for something like 3-5 dollars, this 2.26 ounce jar is an incredible bargain.
