Cowboy 24220 Lump Charcoal, 20-Pound 4 Pack

I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars here because the value is great but the quality is just ok.I buy this charcoal for my big green egg. It works just fine, although I typically get a lot of smaller pieces and dust. I just let that go because of the low price of this charcoal. I have purchased Kamado Joe charcoal, and it is far superior to this. However, the price of Kamado is just too much. For someone like me that grills at least 3 days a week all year long, I'd prefer to go the more economical route. If you only occasionally grill, you may want to go with Kamado Joe.

When I lived in Montana this was my go-to charcol after trialing many brands. When I moved to Cali, it was available close by to i bought on here. The bags came quickly and sealed in another plastic bag for shipment. I use the plastic bag to keep it covered. With the Chimney, the coals get hot fast, and then last a long time. I usually grill for the week at once. This Sunday i grilled 4 pounds of brats, smoked a rack of ribs for an hour and cooked 5 shoulder steaks and still had heat. The coals are dense and retain/ give off heat for a long time. I also like the smoke from the wood. A great value. I will continue to buy Cowboy, and of course by the 4 pack as this is My main source of fuel for cooking.UPDATE: This is my second shipment, and is consistent as always.

After years of solely using Cowboy Lump Charcoal, my most recent purchase came bagged in something other than heavyweight craft paper. In fact, it appears to be a poly-type synthetic ala Tyvec. Thanks for nothing guys. Not only do we need more plastic out there like a hole in the head, but I used the bag to start my coal in a chimney starter. Thanks, thanks a lot.

The pieces were very uneven, some huge chunks that I had to break up and a lot of small pieces/powders at the bottom of the bag. For the price it's probably still a good deal and the good enough pieces do seem to burn well with high temp and good burning time. Seems like the seller just ordered it from Wal-Mart and deliver to me as it comes with a WalMart shipping bag which is kind of nice as I just keep it in the bag and put it outside the side yard not to worry about rain/water.

Product arrived in plastic bags that obviously were not handled gently. Basically I have four bags of black dust! Will never buy again, not recommend

Fantastic grill hardwood charcoal for everything. Burns nicely, hot and consistently.

Great value charcoal for the money. Very pleased with the burn rate and size of charcoal. Would highly recommend for BGE grilling and smoking.
