Tragedy of the Irish
This book illuminates the "Troubles" that have plagued Ireland forever. A vignette, using the newly-appointed Ambassador to England, allows for the story to develop....there are many "moving parts" and many characters. The book had a hint of the flavor of Allon series....I found it very readable and enjoyable.

Silva's quality writing
Always love Silva's writing, such a relief to get back to his books, with clear characters and solid plots, always appreciate him more after wasting time on some other writers:-)

So much to learn with great page turning mystery
As with all Silva's novels, I found Marching Season extremely educational as I rapidly turned the pages. Although I found it a bit confusing about exactly who was who. In this book, we find our lovely CIA agent, Michael Osbourne, right in the middle of a possible new IRA/Ulster Irish Nationalists civil war. A great mystery of course, but really explained so much about " the troubles" and so very timely because as I was reading it, Sinn Fein (of the IRA) won a majority in the parliament of the Northern Ireland Assembly. Silva is so eerily timely as he was about Putin and the oligarchs in his last Gabriel Allon, The Cello TID BITS: She was the kind of wife who turned heads at Personnel. Graham indulged her because she was beautiful and because she was gifted. She possessed a fire for life that the Service had long extinguished in him. He wore her like a loud tie. . She set her unfaltering gaze on him. Somewhere during her ascent , Monica Tyler had learned to use her eyes as a weapon. They were liquid and blue and changed instantly with her mood. When she was interested her eyes became translucent and fastened on her subject with therapeutic intensity. When she was annoyed--or worse, yet, bored--her pupils froze over and her gaze turned unreflecting. When she was angry her eyes flickered about her victim like searchlights, scanning for a kill zone. He looked once more at the western sky, the direction Monica's helicopter would come, but there was only a spray of wet stars, scattered over the black carpet of space, and a sliver of moon, white as exposed bone.

Good book
I purchased this as a gift for my man. His favorite author. Good price and very fast delivery. Well packaged.

Top flight conspiracy plot
While the plot seems far fetched the author made it personal and believable even though some of the character development seems drawn out it thoroughly supports the plot. The best and completely Daniel Silva.

Not up to Silva's usually high standards
Just as Picasso didn't create a masterpiece every time he put brush to canvas, Daniel Silva has written a clunker of a novel. I'll chalk it up to this being one of his early attempts even though I enjoyed book I of this two book series. The plot was obscure and plodding. The characters were confusing. The villain was an international group of unnamed people in high places who were committed to maintaining a sense of fear, unrest and tension among the world's countries. To do this they hired assassins to kill and terrorize key targets.Michael Osbourne a once retired CIA operative brought back to hunt down the most vicious of these assassins, and coincidentally the one who killed his loved ones, chases and is chased by him. In the end when finally confronting his enemy he has an epiphany, when the assassin explains, they are not enemies, merely tools used by the true villains to carry out the evil deeds as ordered.I found the book disappointing and am glad there are no follow ons to it.

mesmerizing
Silva is the master of his genre. I had never read his Osbourne books, loved The Marching Season 1&2 . Wish he would bring Osbourne and October back, maybe as collaborators?

Too much swearing
This was an excellent book apart from the dreadful swearing in it, paragraphs which I had to pass over. If this was the first of his books that I had read I would have not have bought any more from this author. Luckily I had started half way through his Gabriel Allon season and all those have been amazing.

book sold in rubbish condition
book arrived in very poor condition , the binding was in poor condition generally, with a large black stain covering the lower part of the front cover, overall, the book was not readable. the book price was low, but I did expect a book in fair readable condition, instead I received a book which was disposed of via my weekly refuse collection, this book had been rated by amazon as in very good condition

Excellent
Excellent. Well written thriller, well built and easy to follow story, even for someone whose native language is not English. Already bought some more books in English from this author to read in the future, most of them in second hand. In comparison, the Portuguese books are quite expensive.
