There are a number of excellent written and video reviews of this product, so I won't reiterate their content. I now own 2 of these from Amazon, having used the first for 6 months and been very pleased with it.It takes some work to optimize the performance of the Minix - check out the U8K-Ultra forums. Also, if you use Kodi, check out the Android Kodi wiki. I use the Minix primarily as a canned media player with Kodi, and Kodi's setup is a little tricky to get it right, especially if you have thousands of files. Also, if you have stuttering issues, try tweaking the Kodi caching under the Settings/Services menu and the buffer settings under the Settings/System menu. If you want access to ALL of kodi's settings, make sure you enable the EXPERT option on the left sidebar.One recommendation; while the remote is OK, I much prefer the Logitech K400 Plus Android keyboard as a input device. Also, the Minix is compatible with large hard drives - my 16TB USB connected drives work fine.Sometimes either the touchpad or the keyboard navigation keys quit working. Restarting the Minix solves the problem.Lastly, it would be nice if the Minix was compatible with USB external optical dives. This feature would allow it to completely replace DVD and blu-ray players.

I reordered and received the Minix U8K Ultra. I had hoped that after all this time, the developers would have resolved many, if not all, of the bugs and introduced some new features. There are new features available under Minix Settings in the latest firmware. Be sure to check them out! I have had challenges getting certain apps to function correctly. Some apps integrated into the latest firmware present issues. One integrated app/icon in my applications list is non-functional and I cannot remove or uninstall it. I had to resort to one of the various app stores to download a properly functioning version of that app. Consequently, I ended up with two app icons, of which only one will operate. The settings for another app cannot be modified and does not work correctly, even after updating the integrated version. Following the update on the play store, the error message indicating that an app displaying over other apps is preventing it from scanning and updating your applications will no longer appear. That was a relief! I noticed some apps I need aren't available for this device in any of the app stores This device has too many hoops for me to go through. I lost the interest along the way because the trouble I had to go through to get this to work properly isn’t worth the time. I need/want a seamless experience. On a new device I shouldn't have to rack my brain!

I've been a huge Plex user, and I have run plex from my TV, the web (phone, computer), Roko's but primarily my Nvidia Shield TV Pro. The Shield is an old device and I'm always looking for a better option that supports lossless audio formats and HDMI 2.1 (Shield is only 2.0).I saw this box by accident, but dug into the specs and it was certainly a big hardware upgrade from my shield. I saw it on sale and decided to give it a shot. It was fairly easy to get it installed and the performance was very good (although wouldn't say better than the Shield). Where things went bad is in the Plex application which is running on android OS (Minix) vs android TV (Plex). The interface wasn't very intuitive, and it didn't offer many of the options on my Shield. The fast forward and rewind were very klunky, and within using it for a few hours I knew I would never use the device to replace my shield.I give 3 stars because it did work, and perform as expected, but I ended up returning the device as it did not adequately work anywhere near as well as my Shield Pro. Waiting for the next thing.....

The media could not be loaded. As you can see, it's PG 1080p h264 AAC 5.1 2.4 0. 0. It plays an HD Adobe vision as mentioned and reviews on YouTube saying it won't play anything except 2.0. as you see from the video it is playing 5.1 through my 7.14 Samsung playing beautiful, no hiccups.

The Minix U8K Ultra is an excellent Android box, costly to some others although you get what you paid for.Quick delivery and well packed. Recommended.

Excellent picture quality! Dolby Vision and the HDR's are great. All the audio DTS formats and Dolby formats are supported after allowing the update. There has been an update each of the past two months and I expect another one soon.

Bought an earlier version of the Minix box. Very disappointed with a total lack of updates for the box.
