Franklin Sensors ProSensor MAX 13-Sensor Stud Finder, 2.5-in Deep Detection

I've been using Franklin Sensors stud finders for years. I originally purchased the standard version, which served me flawlessly for several years. When the first Pro model with live wire detection was released, I upgraded and used that until I unfortunately misplaced it. After seeing the new ProSensor MAX, I decided to upgrade again, and it's easily the best version they've made. The biggest improvement is the increased number of sensors. Combined with centerline detection, it provides an even clearer picture of exactly where the stud begins, ends, and where the center is. It also retains all of the features that made the previous models so reliable, including no calibration and fast, accurate scanning. Accuracy is where this tool really stands out. I've tried dozens of stud finders over the years, and nothing else has been as consistently reliable. The wide sensor array dramatically reduces false positives and missed studs, even on more challenging surfaces. Being able to see the full width of the stud instead of relying on a single indicator makes it much easier to mark your drilling location with confidence. Speed is another major advantage. Since there's no calibration step, you simply place it on the wall, press the button, and start scanning. The visual display updates instantly, making it quick to trace studs across large sections of drywall, plaster, ceilings, tile, and other surfaces. It saves a surprising amount of time on both small and large projects. Ease of use is excellent. The large LED display is easy to read, the centerline detection removes the guesswork, and the intuitive design makes it accessible whether you're a first-time DIYer or a professional. The Pro MAX is noticeably larger than the previous models, which could be a downside if you're looking for something compact. However, considering the additional sensors packed inside, the larger size is completely understandable and well worth the tradeoff for the added performance. Overall, this is the best stud finder on the market. The combination of outstanding accuracy, fast scanning, and simple operation makes it one of those tools that genuinely reduces frustration and helps you get the job done right the first time. Whether you're mounting TVs, hanging cabinets, installing shelving, or tackling larger remodeling projects, it's well worth the investment.

I have an older home and always had issues finding studs. Most of the walls in the house have either a double stacked drywall or plaster over drywall so many stud finder have trouble locating the studs. I tried using magnet stud finders but they don't work over the drywall-plaster combination. This device almost always finds the stud. It even works outdoors through stucco walls. Its a bit expensive for a stud finder but this is the best money I spent this year. Saved so much time and effort.

This is my third, and undoubtedly last, stud finder I have purchased over the last 30 years. My first was basic and ok for basic things; the second was supposed to have deep mode but didn't really work any better than the first one. And both of those use 9 volt batteries which are expensive and don't seem to last long. I had another model of Franklin sensor, half the cost of this one, in my cart for a year. When I finally got serious about buying a new sensor, I splurged for this one based on its stated ability to scan deep with accuracy. I had two immediate test cases that prompted this purchase. The first is in my garage along the wall shared by my house and the garage. From the garage side, the sheetrock is over sheathing before the studs. The cheap "magnet" approach some people swear by is absolutely worthless here because the drywall hangers only ensured the drywall was attached to the sheathing. The screw columns have no relation to the studs. Maybe ok for the drywall, but not when I want to mount shelves with lag screws to support 100's of lbs. The second case was at my daughter's townhome which needed some work in the closet, along a wall shared with the next townhouse, so the sheetrock was two layers thick. This Pro Max sensor worked fantastically on both walls. I've used the nail method to pinpoint studs, which was long and laborious in both of these scenarios. This thing simply works, and I tried it out also in my shower over porcelain tile where I want to install a grab bar. Again, I got great readings which I truthed above the tile. I subsequently have hung cabinets and shelves all over my garage and saved a lot of time with this vs struggling with my old sensors and falling back to the Hammer and nail. Was it expensive? Yes. Do I think it is over priced? Yes. Am I glad I bought it? Absolutely!! do I have any remorse? Not at all. Not one bit. I would buy it again. In the long run, it's a great value. And I absolutely love that it takes double-A batteries, not 9 volt. They have lasted a long time even on deep scan mode. That alone will save much money over time. My images show three different areas on two wall in my garage where the true center (green light, verified with the nail method) is off relative to the drywall screws.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Accurate, Easy to Use, and Worth Every Penny! I’m very impressed with this stud finder. It’s simple to operate, feels well-made, and does a great job detecting studs behind the wall. The readings are quick and easy to understand, which makes it much easier to know where it’s safe to drill or install something. I’ve used other stud finders before, but this one has been much more convenient and reliable. It has saved me time and the frustration of making unnecessary holes in the wall. Whether you’re doing DIY projects, hanging shelves, mounting a TV, or working on home improvements, this is a tool I would definitely recommend. For the price, the quality and performance are excellent. A great addition to any homeowner’s toolbox!

Theoritcally should be one of the most accurate and easy stud finder until now. Practically has many drawbacks. First Mode 1 and Mode 2 not consisting in results you always not sure which mode is correct. Second, very bulky and useless features like the buble level and the very hard to reach or think about the pencil. Third, very heavy and bulky I do not think it is all electronics will dissassible it some time.Finally, very expensive considering it is made in the USA I'd say it should be but a small fraction of that price if made in china. I recommend the company should considering spending some time of developing the theory and manufacturing it in china for competitive price.

This thing is like the JDAM of stud finding! Short of getting one of those $1500 X-ray devices, Franklin Sensors has the game figured out and is on target every time. More importantly, this finder hits DEAD center, critical for heavy loads like TVs and not ruining your drywall and studs from missed attempts. Also the dual modes are more useful than you may realize - regardless of your homes age, the different depths can give you a better stud “image”, once you use this device you’ll appreciate how easy and user friendly it is. If you’re already in your forever home, got your walls painted the color you want etc., it’s worth the investment over a cheaper device - I never bother with reviews but this device is actually worth telling others about!

I bought the Franklin ProSensor MAX after fighting with multiple “pro” multi-material scanners and stud finders that simply could not locate a joist under carpet and padding. I needed to fix a squeaky floor, and every other tool I tried either got confused by random metal in the floor assembly, or required me to first find a screw or nail with surgical precision. That’s not practical in a real house and certainly not through carpet. This tool worked where the others failed. like the Bosch GMS120-27 Wall Scanner. This was easy to use and while it did struggle a bit with the dense material it could still find the floor joist accurately. This is a bit on the big size but not an issue if you want great results. My house was built in 2005 with the typical construction technique of liquid nails + nailed subfloor over 3/4″ OSB. That means fasteners are inconsistent, some nails miss the joist entirely, and there’s a surprising amount of “random metal” that throws off metal-detecting scanners (Bosch GMS120-27 Wall Scanner). On top of that, I have 20-year-old contractor-grade carpet with a thick, resilient pad that most stud finders can’t see through. The Franklin MAX didn’t care about any of that. Instead of trying to detect a single fastener or guess at metal type, the ProSensor MAX reads the actual structural support pattern beneath the floor. It was able to reliably show me where the joist line was through carpet + ~1/2″ pad + OSB. Once I had the joist line marked, I drove the appropriate screws through the carpet to secure the subfloor and the squeak was gone in minutes. What impressed me most is that I had already tried one of the popular “professional” multi-material scanners (Bosch GMS120-27 Wall Scanner) before this, and that unit could detect metal but provided no confidence that the metal was part of the joist fastener line vs. just another nail, tack strip, or staple. The Franklin MAX solved the problem directly instead of making me interpret noise. If you need a joist or stud finder for finished floors, carpeted areas, or older houses where nails and screws aren’t consistent, don’t waste time with cheaper units or metal-only detectors. This was the only tool that actually did what it claimed, and it saved me from tearing up carpet just to fix a squeak.

I love, love, LOVE, my new Franklin stud finder!!! The first box I received had obviously been opened, emptied, and resealed, most likely well before my purchase. However, my customer service experience was easy, fast, and hassle-free. After only one or two short messages to the seller explaining the situation, I quickly received the actual tool the next day. I'm a very amateur carpenter/picture hanger/honey-doer. I have searched for, bought, and tried dozens of different brand, type, model, size, and priced, stud finders in the past 40+ years. You name it, and I've owned and tried it. But in all that time I have never found a single stud finder that I was satisfied with. Not a single one was accurate enough, or consistent enough to ever consider my search for a quality stud finder over with for good. No matter which stud finder I tried, I always had to poke extra holes in the sheetrock to find both edges of the stud, in order to be absolutely sure where the center was located. Most of the things I hang in the garage or inside our house are heavy, and I'd much rather over-build than risk a catastrophic failure and possible injury to someone. So for me, accurately finding the stud's center is critical to installing the lag bolts and heavier screws I normally use. After watching a few videos and reading many reviews I decided to take a chance on the Franklin Sensors ProSensor MAX, despite the steep (for me) price. As soon as my new unit actually came in I took it out to try. I can happily, and with certainty, say that my decades-long stud finder quest has finally come to a successful and very happy end. I long ago reached the point where I dreaded having to hang anything on our walls heavier than an 8"x10" picture, or a calendar. But, no more! You cannot beat this stud finder for quickly and accurately locating wood or metal studs. No way! As fast as you can press a button and steadily slide the unit horizontally across the wall a couple of feet, you can find both edges and center of a stud. I'd say easily within 10-15 seconds. Plus you don't need to poke any extra holes in your sheetrock to double check your tool, not one! The row of bright LED's instantly indicate the whole stud, side to side, and center, with no discernable error of any significance that I could tell. I recall reading some reviews claiming short battery life, but that hasn't been my experience. I've used mine over two months on the initial set of batteries, but I do intend to get the rechargeable battery pack once this first set is done. It's not the beefiest-feeling tool, but feels sturdy enough that I'm not worried about it. With a little care it should last for a lifetime of home use, no problem. I'm so happy with my purchase that I ended up buying a professional-grade padded tool case to keep mine in, for a lot of extra protection and peace of mind. After many uses over a couple of months, I can confidently say that my long search for a stud finder I'm completely happy with is finally over! I'm very happy with the price I paid for a tool that repeatedly, and without fail, operates as easily, quickly, and accurately as is advertised. For me, that's a very rare find. I tell everyone I know and work with about my new Franklin stud finder, and I recommend they get one as soon as possible and end their search, too.

This is a big chunky mutha! I had no idea how big this thing was till it arrived. I've had a few other models of their stud finders and they are the best out there. This seems to work even better than the others. Only neg is it will take up a lot of space in the tool bag!

Détecteur qui permet une bien meilleure recherche des montants, dans mon cas des montants bois cachés par un pare-pluie et de l'OSB. J'avais déjà acheté un appareil de cette marque, moins perfectionné (moins de capteurs) mais les résultats étaient très moyens. A noter que si l'on souhaite retrouver les montants bois derrière du bac acier cette fois-ci, ça ne fonctionne pas. L'investissement en vaut la peine.

Bought this to locate the studs in Scandinavian timber frame walls and it works like a charm! Love how it instantly shows the full width of the beam without any annoying calibration. Saved me so much time. Definitely worth every penny!

Helped me find a ceiling joist through plasterboard and lath. Which is something other similar tools struggled with, and exactly why I bought it.

Expensive but it works really well. I needed to fit grab bars to my shower due to a health issue. None of my regular stud finders could find the studs through the very large porcelain wall tiles and dry board. This finder did the job to perfection immediately. If you need to detect through heavy porcelain tile this is the tool you need.
