The ZHEN VG-10 3 Layers forged Knife kit series has 4 styles, 8" chef knife, 7" Santoku, 5" Small Santoku, 3.5" Paring knife. The kit comes with a blade blank only, DIY your handle with a material of your choice. The blade is constructed with 3 Layers forged steel with VG-10 core in the middle, HRC 60-62 for a finer and tougher edge that is still easy to sharpen. The handle is perfectly weight balanced and features a full-tang and 3-pin design with 4 sets of pins included free of charge. Designed to suit the cutting techniques used by professional Japanese chefs, this knife brings culinary mastery to any kitchen. Every ZHEN knife kit comes inside a handcrafted gift box. USE AND CARE: not for chopping bone; do not use on hard surfaces like granite, tile, or glass cutting boards; wash by hand with gentle dish soap, rinse, and dry with a dishcloth; sharpen with a whetstone at an angle of 15 degrees. Great quality steel, makes for a awesome project!
Beautiful little knife blank project. The steel is of great quality, and if you look close you can see the layers of forging near the edge. Slapped some curly wood and decorative pins on there, polished to a mirror shine and removed the logo, and a stunning paring knife is the result. Sharpens to a razor edge. I only wish they offered a version with no logo, but a little rouge takes care of it easy.

Knife is great, the extras aren't.
Knife came in tack sharp, although a little lighter than I anticipated.The pins it shipped with didn't set properly and took much more effort to set than they should, but in the end worked out OK.The gift box the knife came in was poor quality that wasn't even properly glued together, total garbage, I'd just throw it out.All in all though, mostly satisfied with the blank.

The blade is high quality and very sharp. I dropped 2 stars because it should have came with the rivets and they were missing

Great quality
This is a good quality knife kit! Easy to work with, can get creative with the handle and even on the blade itself. Great deal for a great blade. Shipped fast and good customer service.

Nice sharpness; ok value
Pros: Metal quality appears good. Nice edge out of the boxCons: Tang was a little warped. A few minor nicks. Good protection of the edge is absolutely necessary when fitting scales in order to prevent damage.
