Seven Dials: Charlotte and Thomas Pitt Mysteries, Book 23

If you love the 19th century England, aristocracy, murder most foul, you would enjoy the Pitt series! you learn about life in the upper echelons from a couple who span both worlds,too. Ms Perry has the ability to bring these historical lives to life with a vibrancy of characters, historical events and our own view of facts in today’s world. She always produces a page-turner but allows you to solve it a little ahead, you think, but there is a twist waiting for you! I recommend reading the whole Thomas Pitt series but they stand alone but without the rich background of the developing characters! Be aware that there are 3 collections you may purchase to read the first 12 or more in the series rather than individual books (Vol 1-3) I have gone back to reading the older ones and am now finishing the rest, again! If you love mysteries, history, good characters and an easy read, READ the Thomas Pitt series, they are great!!

A complex, complicated, elegant tale of wrongdoing; of regret; of revenge; and of justice! Well written, well developed characters placed in a historically important situation that makes all the twist and turns believable!

I became interested in reading Anne Perry's fiction after I read "Anne Perry and the Murder of the Century." In 1954, Ms. Perry, then Juliet Hulme, and her best friend, Pauline Parker, bludgeoned Pauline's mother to death. It seems to me that a person doesn't commit a gruesome, hands-on murder and be unaffected by it, regardless of the killer's youth at the time of the crime. In "Seven Dials," Ms. Perry closely examines post-traumatic stress syndrome against the backdrop of Alexandria, Egypt (1882) and the ongoing suffering of British military veterans a decade later. As a writer myself, I know that our own experiences color and inform what is written, and I am sure this author draws on that long-ago violence. I have begun reading "A Breach of Promise" and find PTSD again an important theme, this time affecting characters thrown into the worst of wartime butchery in the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and in the Crimean War (1853 to 1856). In both books, Ms. Perry draws very effectively on her own experiences to warn others of the heavy burden carried by participants, whether for a "good cause" steeped in patriotism or plain murder.

This was an interesting book with many different aspects: Egypt, cotton production history, the Suez Canal - which has just been in the news days after I read about its importance to trade. It was worth reading.

One of my favorite aspects about buying books from Amazon is the fact that I can buy used books from sellers across the country who have partnered with Amazon. I get them at a great price and in great condition. "Seven Dials" is one of my favorite titles from Anne Perry's Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series. I like listening to audio versions of books. I heard a sample of this one and the price for the CD version and the condition it was in was a "no-brainer" for me. It arrived in a condition I am pleased with. It has been used, but was well treated by it's previous owner. The seller got it to me in a timely fashion. I am most pleased and satisfied with this Amazon purchase.

i like anne perry novels, they always keep you guessing.

Thomas Pitt shows us both sides of Victorian society, the aristocracy in their luxurious homes, & the hoi polloi of the streets. Investigating crime, his place is somewhere between the two, drawing clues & information from all sides. A clever book.

Love these stories by Anne Perry have some books and I am slowing collecting them on audio.

Heather some of Anne's other books were good to.Hope other books are as good to read or even better.
