Lovely Book
Beautiful book! So well ordered and easy to follow. I especially like the ribbon to keep my place in the book. If you wear the brown scapular, this book is helpful:“The Blessed Virgin assigned certain conditions which must be fulfilled:1.Wear the Brown Scapular continuously.2.Observe chastity according to one’s state in life (married/single).3.Recite daily the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin OR Observe the fasts of the Church together with abstaining from meat on Wednesdays and Saturdays OR With permission of a priest, say five decades of Our Lady’s Most Holy Rosary OR With permission of a priest, substitute some other good work.”

Wonderful for guiding ordinary sincere Christians through prayer to Jesus' Mother. Great for OFS's!
I love my copy, as I stated above, and as I have just been Professed as a member of the Secular Franciscans, I say Morning and Evening prayer daily, as well as Night Prayer as often as possible. It also placwes Or Lady, Mary of Nazareth, in her proper place in history, as the only human born without original sin. For Jesus, as the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, could not sin; and Mary (by God's deliberate and compassionate action) was conceived without sin--for how could God (in the human nature of Jesus) ever be gestated or reared by someone who was, even for an instant, under the mastery of Satan, the father of sin? This is why we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. It's not His conception we are honoring, it's Our Lady's, God's great gift to her. How do I use this book? To get closer to Jesus' holy and humble Mother, because I need to become more holy and humble myself, and who better to teach me by her gentle life than she? This copy is for my brother, for he and several of my adult children have asked me for a copy of TLOof theBVM for Christmas. They cannot wait! Neither can! It changes everything! BTW, Merry Christmas to you as well! If you are Jewish, Muslim or any other Faith Tradition, may the mighty God who created all of us give you and yours a thousand blessings and may your dearest wish come true. Pax et bonum.

Little Office of BVM
As usual, this is the one to have. This is my 2nd time around with this little prayer book; and I have to say that I am as pleased with it as I was the first time around eight years ago. First one was given away as a gift. This is the one to have if you're interested in praying communally with the Roman Catholic Church as it's the only version currently recognized by the church as alternate official liturgical prayer, which makes it quite a different thing than personal devotional prayer. This version is the only one I know of that was brought up to currency with the Churches' Divine Office revisions mandated by Vatican II. This may be a problem for some of those self-styled traditionalists who are too "pure" for later reforms but not a problem for those who are fully in step with modern liturgy and in full communion with the Church. I have been praying the four volume Liturgy of the Hours for the last ten years so feel I know what I'm talking about with regard to what liturgical prayer is. Blue genuine leather covered boards and sewn binding for long term daily use. This tome has an exquisite feel in the hands. Excellent workmanship and materials throughout. Paper is of good quality and adequately thick for easy handling. For those looking for an inexpensive way to get into the Liturgy of the Hours and ramp up their daily prayer lives I can't recommend this particular issue strongly enough. You might want to ask your Priest about it but don't be too surprised if he isn't familiar with it. The Little Office of the BVM is one of the best kept "secrets" of the Catholic Church because most people who use it just don't, unfortunately, talk about it - too bad. Its just the thing for those who want to draw closer to the BVM (Jesus' Mom). This issue also has ALL the hours of the Office, i.e. Morning Prayer, Daily Prayer (one hour only), Evening Prayer, Night Prayer, and Office of Readings. It's based of the Common of the Blessed Virgin Mary so is part of the annual Sanctoral Cycle, however, its cycle is weekly. Don't look for Prime and Lauds in this issue as they were combined and streamlined to become Morning Prayer. For those who want the more traditional form of the "office" but don't speak or wish to learn Latin I recommend the Anglican Breviary as its an English version (under the accidents of the KJV) of the 1911 reformed secular Roman Breviary of the Catholic Church which I also sometimes use; warning: this will require a strong commitment that most will find exasperatingly difficult at first - experts only. My prayer group has begun using this little volume of the Little Office and they're all very impressed with it too - surprise, surprise, well duh. Again, lot's of bang for your prayer book buck! You simply cannot go wrong on this one.

Was confused on what version to get...
...I feel confident I made the right choice.I'm a revert, born after Vatican II and newly returned to the faith. I was a little confused by the controversy surrounding this version. In the end, I decided to return to the True Church, of which those reforms are a part, so I am going to pray this liturgical prayer as the Church prays. This is a community prayer. The quality of the book is excellent, although the format may be confusing for some. This book offers seven hours a day for prayer, I feel like some reviewers feel like there are only "morning" and "evening" prayers. If you read the introduction a few times you'll pick up on it.Morning and Evening Prayers change on different days of the week, Office Readings (Matins, which can be done any time of day), Daytime Prayers (Terce, Sext, and None), and Night Time Prayers (Compline) are the same throughout the week.Admittedly, I am new at this, but it seems like a good edition to go with as it's based on the current liturgy of the hours as mandated by the magisterium of the Catholic Church.A great way to cultivate a special devotion to our Blessed Mother, Mary! She loves you and wants to bring you closer to her Son, our Lord Jesus!

This Little office of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a beautiful book
This "little office of the Blessed Virgin Mary" is lovely in its appearance. It is said in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary sometimes instead of the 'Litany of the Hours." Especially on Saturdays, this book is perfect to say the prayers on honor of Mary. Saturday is the day to hon or Her.Great price & a lovely copy.Reverend Donna M. Swindells
