What does the back look like?is it finished at all? The backs will be visible in my home.

Yes, the back is finished. The trim on top and bottom also extends around back although the back is squared. I am using two tables as sofa end tables, with the back exposed. I did receive one where the drawer front had come apart. It was easy to put back together. There was No wood damage. The quality is better than I expected.
