If the solar panel is connected with a cable, doesnt that mean the camera then being exposed to elements? As the charging port lid is open??

Thanks for your question, a sharing confusion we believe. The solar panel comes with rubber plugs. You need to stick the rubber plug on and then the charger plug. In this way, your solar panel and security camera would be water-proof. Check out the user manual on our product page please.
