NEXPEAK NX301 UNIVERSAL POWERFUL PROFESSIONAL OBD2 SCANNER
I only just started driving again after a brief hiatus of 15 years. I bought a cheap VW Polo for only a grand. Only after a few weeks the ‘Check Engine’ light illuminated so I immediately took the car to the garage. They proceeded to charge me £50 to diagnose the problem. I believe this is the standardminimum extortionate rate in the UK.I was amazed that cars nowadays have ECUs ( A type of electronic control unit that controls a series of actuators on an internal combustion engine to ensure optimal engine performance). After a costly repair in the garage the engine light came on once again.I scoured the internet and thought that for £20 why not purchase the NX301.Ease of deliveryThe product arrived quickly just after placing my order. I arranged for a collection to be made at my local sorting office.PackagingWell packaged. The unit came in a sturdy box that includes software to update the unit, and a lead that you can plug into the pc to enable you to print. A comprehensive manual too.Build QualityThe unit is by no means a ‘cheap and cheerful’ product. It is quite robust and comes with a thick lead; you plug it into the car’s ECU using a 16-pin male connector that connects to your 16-pin female connector in your car.Ease of useI plugged the unit into the car and instantly it communicated with the car’s computer immediately showing me a wealth of information about the car. A code came up that suggested I had trouble with a solenoid which I easily replaced myself. Saving garages’ diagnostic fees and labour charges.ConclusionNot all cars that were built before 2003 support the OBDII standard hence the device won’t work with your car. And I believe some cars that have wiring and sensor problems may not be able to use most obdii scanners. But this professional unit is a must and comes with a tidy bag that you can stow in your car. And if you break down you have on hand information to relay to the breakdown service. You are in charge!!!!!! Well worth the money!!!!

Easy to use accurate OBD2 reader
Bought this product as I had been meaning to for a while now. Having read a few reviews decided to go for this NEXPEAK NX301.Came same day I ordered it in a very professional box with instructions, USB cable and carry pouch.Updated it via their website which was easy to do (although it says to hold down OK when you turn it on but on mine it's ENTER).Connected it to test it on our Toyota Yaris 04, which I knew Already had EM light on for a previously diagnosed fault. The garage we took it to were at a loss to really find the exact problem and advised us to "just live with it" Which we have done for nearly 3 years.Basically it came up with the same code the garage test report showed (see pic 2)and charged for! Can't remember how much it cost but People on these review's seem to mention about £50 which seems about right.I could clear the code and the EM LIGHT with this too which is good but obviously it came back a few seconds later as fault still there.Fantastic bit of kit, hopefully I'll never use it again, but if the worst happens at least I'll know before taking it into garage and it'll save me a few quid. What's more likely is I'll save a neighbour or friend £50 when they borrow it as things like this always seem to go that way. 😇Fully recommended 👍If I had to be critical I'd make carry pouch a bit bigger. Bit of a squeeze with booklet, device and cables and perhaps a cover for the connector when not in use 👏 5 stars.

Great support during initial teething problems
Bought product to help diagnose fault on step-son's car, looked to be a good price with useful features and good reviews. Box arrived promptly and after a quick scan of the supplied manual and wanting to just see it working before applying to a car and also being an IT buff the first thing I tried was connecting to my PC to check firmware. However, using the supplied cables and connecting the USB cable to my Windows 10 PC, the NX-301 powered up just fine and I was able to navigate the menus, change settings and also restart it in update mode. I downloaded the PC application and tried to do the update but nothing happened and I then realised that there was a status message in bottom left hand corner of the app stating "Please connect device". Realising it wasn't connecting, although it was taking power down the USB I contacted the support line and got a reply in under 30 mins. My initial suspicion was that a driver hadn't installed correctly, especially as the manual showed the typical driver installation screen. The support engineer sent me a new application kit and running this took me through a driver install, supposedly successful. But When I plugged the USB cable in I kept getting the PC reporting "the recently installed USB device malfunctioned" in a screen pop, which I hadn't previously noticed. Support did stress that the required driver was normally installed by default in Windows 10 systems and there should be no need to install any drivers. Support then offered to send me a replacement unit to check if it was a device fault, this arrived 3 days later. When I tried the new unit I got the same problem, power ok but no connection. I then realised I was still using the original unit;s USB cable, so I swapped with the USB cable which came with new unit and everything sprang into life, the PC application connected and I was able to update the firmware on both units. I then noticed that whenever, I plugged the original USB cable into the PC, even with no NX-301 connected on other end I got the same "the recently installed USB device malfunctioned", so the fault was clearly the original USB cable and nothing to do with the NX-301 itself. I even found that a spare cable, with same end connectors, worked just fine. So full marks to support for being very responsive and helpful. unfortunely whilst investigating this interconnection problem the step-son found his fault the old fashioned way so I have had little chance to try this in anger. I have connected it to the better half's car and was able to read the diagnostics very easily, although no real problems reported, and was also able to monitor the car (revs etc) with the engine running. So looks very promising just got to wait for chance to use in anger. :-)
