Twenty beautiful crochet shawl patterns in a variety of yarn weights
This is a collection of twenty crochet shawl patterns that Interweave considers to be the “best” of their previously published patterns in other books and in their magazines. I don't subscribe to their magazine and the few books I have by this company do not include these patterns – thus they are all new to me. You may want to check to be sure that this is true for you as well. I'll provide a listing of the names of the patterns and some photo stills as well to assist you in determining if you have these already. The patterns are provided in written and visual charts with lots of diagrams of specific stitches and patterns of stitches. I like that both methods are provided. While I generally use written instructions, the visual ones are of great assistance with some of the more advanced techniques. The instructions are written in US crochet terms and they did not include a conversion chart to UK terms. You should be able to find a chart with a simple search on the Internet. The patterns are by a variety of artists and include the name and the size of yarn used for each shawl. I consider most to be intermediate to advanced patterns. They include lists of hook size(s), notions (if any) and gauge sizes, too. Each shawl is shown in multiple photos so you can see it from a variety of angles. The photographs are very well come. There are many shawls done in 0 and size 1 yarns and a few are in DK, worsted weight and bulky. That makes for a nice variety. The one problem I have with the book is that they decided to print the written instructions in a medium gray instead of black. It makes it a little difficult to read. Currently, I am using a bright light as I stitch but have considered photocopying the instructions so I can have them in a darker hue.The shawls included in this book are: Eolande, Emergence, Endymion, Buttercream Shawl, Jessamine, Bolt Shawl, Tres Chic Neck Warmer, Blue Lagoon Swirling Hexagon Shawl, Flying Broomstick, Parisian Gardens Circular Shawl, Tiffany Shawl, Dover, Orchid Faroese Shawl, Pleiades Shawl, Almandine Shawlette, Torchilight Shawl, All-In-One Shawl, Sausalito Sparkle Shawl, Shifting Shawl and Amelie Triangular Shawl.

Projecting what I would have written if I had been able to read this book...lost all my books in forest fire, Aug 2017; had been looking forward to expanding my library, knowledge & skills.

The instructions are vague.
The designs are beautiful in this book. But you must be experienced to be able to understand the instructions and diagram in each pattern. Now I've only done two patterns but I've already found mistakes and had to alter the pattern. My design looks the same but I've had to minus stitch. Cut the yarn and start a different way. Just to make the pattern work. It's not that you can't do these beautiful designs, just be experienced so you can figure out the pattern. I gave it a 3 for beauty of articles. But it lost points for vague instructions that make this book for only experienced crocheters.

Incomprehensible
Half the shawls are nice, the rest are "meh". But the instructions are just unfathomable. I've been crocheting for 12 years and never seen such poorly written patterns and what on earth is that graph all about?

Great ideas
Disappointed to find that at least three of the patterns have been published in another Interweave book, Poetic Crochet, other than that, another great pattern book to add to your collection.
