Yes, by now, we're all familiar with the joke about guys, cargo shorts, and 'Nam. However, the joke never mentioned cargo pants, nor did it mention the absolute convenience of cargo pockets while in the saddle. And while we understand the laughter directed towards massive pants with pockets for pockets' sake, the new Levi's Commuter Cargo Pants shatter this mold. In fact, these pants feature a slim fit, both a sanitized and protective finish, and thankfully, no carpenter's hook for ghosts of hammers past. These aren't some run-of-the-mill, one-off attempt at appeasing a subculture. Instead, Levi's worked closely with cyclists in multiple cities around America, distributing prototypes and accepting feedback. And, as a result of developing the pants in accordance to critique, Levi's effectively dialed-in the fit, accoutrements, and finishes to what cyclists are actually asking for. Accordingly, Levi's adapted its slim-fit cargo pants to the purpose of cycling. The Commuter Cargos feature a water-resistant and dirt-repellent NanoSphere protective finish to make commuting in hostile weather a little more acceptable, especially if your destination is the office. It's for this very reason that Levi's also incorporated an odor-resistant Sanitized finish to the pants, too. Levi's also made these pants perfect for trips where your bag is staying at home by installing a U-lock holster along the rear of the waistband. This way, you're not ramming your lock down your pants, wearing out your belt, or being forced to wear a fanny-pack -- you're grown man after all. In terms of durability, Levi's double-layered the seat panel and the rear pockets. Additionally, the crotch of the Cargo is gusseted in order to resist tearing and saddle abrasion. In terms of fit, it's important to note that Levi's considers the Cargo as a slim-fit pair of pants. They sit slightly below the waist and feature a slim, slightly tapered leg. However, for the sake of coverage while in the saddle, the...

Bought as a gift for my son
He lives in rainy Portland and bikes everywhere. He said he loves them, and that they really do repel rain.

Heavy, inflexible cargos
Don't know whose bright idea it was to market these as biking trousers. The pants are heavy and made of a rough, inflexible fabric. The fit was as expected but this is not for biking to work in texas weather which is what I bought it for.

Only wear if it's dry outside
I can't say that these pants suck or anything, but they are a little hipster, which I suppose should have been expected. The cut is really low, so your underwear will hang out if you are on a bike; thankfully I have a 'commuter' jacket from Endura (5 stars) that has a low cut in the back, so I'm good. As for my title, if there is ANY wet silt or dirt on the group, every single grain of it will show on these black pants. These are definitely pants that I can only wear once before I have to wash them or look like I slept on the street. If the latter is no problem for you, go right ahead. The pants are pretty warm, but the slim fit makes the pockets fairly useless. I have a small flip phone, and it fits in one of the hip pockets, but after that, I'm lucky if I can fit a receipt.I like the built in buttons on the ankles that act as ankle straps to keep my cuffs out of my chain and from hooking on bottle cages, the top of a crank arm, or whatever else they like to get caught on.All in all, I feel a little foolish wearing them in my 30s, but they get the job done. I got them on super sale from theclymb.com, so I don't feel like I was ripped off or anything.

Very cool jeans if I were a hipster or a few years younger. They fit tight in the calves, but overall they feel very comfortable. They are a blend with spandex and cotton, so they flex fairly well. If I worked in a design studio and rode everyday they would be perfect. Alas, I am a principal and ride a few times per week and can't wear them as my everyday attire. I am only returning because they are too tight and I won't use them as much as a regular pair of black jeans.
