Loved the show when it was on TV , and Love the colection I got at the price .

I'm a big fan of Robert B. Parker's Spenser novels. Nobody does detective - private eye novels better than Parker. I liked the television show "Spenser For Hire", loosely based on the books, but the books are much better. Most of the main characters are a little different than the TV show, except for Hawk. Avery Brooks nailed it. His Hawk is exactly like Hawk in the novels, very cool. Robert Urich was very good as the TV Spenser as was Richard Jaeckel as Lt Quirk and Ron McLarty as Sgt Belson. The beautiful Barbara Stock played Susan Silverman and was very close to the character in the novels. The relationship between Spenser and Susan was different than most and was the one thing that set the show apart from most detective shows. Susan was unique to TV, she was real. She was a mature, intelligent, independent, professional woman who added to the Spencer character. When ABC decided to write her out of the script for the second season and replaced her with an annoying assistant DA, it made the Spenser character seem shallow, less complete. Wisely ABC brought Susan back for the third season, but the damage had been done and the third season was sadly the last. Too bad, it was good TV. I'm having re-watching the shows. Loved the theme song.

I have had this on my wishlist for a long time and Christmas was a the perfect time to bring it home. I think this was and will always be a great series. The stars of it really played their parts. It is a tough street show that I just love. I like Spencer and of course I love Hawk also. This is a show that can not be rebooted the stars made the show and I can not think of anyone that could fill those shoes. I am watching it slowly so I can enjoy every episode. This is great classic TV.

Spenser (played by the late Robert Urich) and Hawk (played by Avery Brooks) made a great team. This was truly one of the last great detective series. It's too bad that it only lasted 3 seasons. After Season 2 ended, I am glad that Robert Urich lobbied to get Susan (played by Barbara Stockman) back into the series. She & Robert played well off each other. Season 2 was good to watch as well even though Susan was only mentioned in it, because any Spenser is better than no Spenser. Its just too bad there were not more seasons. I think it was a very good TV show and I am glad that more movies were made and look forward to watching them.

I’m trying to check the discs in the entire set to be sure there ate no glitched copies. So far it’s been good quality. Hope ALL discs are pristine though it will be difficult to watch the entire seres for flaws in such a short period, in case I need to return due to damage.

A tall, handsome, physically fit private detective, that's honest and has a heart! Yes, Spenser is all that. Robert B. Parker writes good detective stories and Robert Urich does a good job at portraying the detective. Hawk is always there when he needs a wingman and his .357 Colt Python demands attention. It was great watching the show back in 1985- 1988. The actors were very good at portraying their characters. I was pretty sure and hopefully, the show would last more years.The first set I received had issues with every episode, except two. Both audio & visually paused and skipped. I contacted the seller. Within a couple days, they issued a return authorization and shipped a replacement. I received the 2nd set within a week. The 2nd set has some very minor pauses & skips on 4 episodes and a lot on a 5th episode. The dvd's also take longer than normal to load. I've been looking for these for many years, so I can live with the issues in 2nd set.

This set collects the TV run of Robert B Parker's fictional investigator Spenser. Robert is also credited as a consultant for the series. Ben Urich plays Spenser with the right amount of drama. Avery Brooks steals the show as the mysterious and loyal friend Hawk. IT includes cameos by famous people such as Ving Rhames, Andie McDowell, and Samiuel L. Jackson. Robert B Parker had his complaints about his character's portrayal, but the series is not a disappointment. Watch and enjoy.
