A Masterpiece of Horror in video gaming
The games has a lot of controversy, this was because it was blamed for a murder after its release when in fact it was the victim of the attack who played the game. Don't let this change your decision on buying Manhunt, if you are looking for a scare, a laugh at its brilliant dark humour and another Rockstar Games classic to add to your collection, this is the game for you.The game in a nutshell is about James Earl Cash being forced into being the main star of a snuff film. You must kill brutal gang members before hey kill you, it is a matter of life or death. The people you kill are not innocent, they are criminals trying to get to you first. It has me sitting on the edge of my seat when I play it, It really is that scary. Also pay attention to the MANY references to Grand Theft Auto III, The game is set in a city nearby Liberty City at around the same time period as GTA 3. If you want to know more about its easter eggs and references, visit [...]

One of if not the best horror games ever made. This and its sequel even.
I for one am a big fan of the manhunt games. I have both one and two for pc alone not to mention on the original xbox, ps2, wii and pop additionally. Brilliant storyline and in my opinion a great piece of gaming to be cherished by the company Rockstar that made them.

Manhunt
Manhunt is infamous for being one of the most violent videogames ever made and does it deliver, does it ever. You play as James Earl Cash a convict who was sentenced to death, the state killed you, but now you have been given a second chance. You must compete in a bloodsport for camera to win your freedom where the more brutal your kills are the more likely you are to win.Primarily a stealth game Manhunt makes you use a variety of makeshift weapons such as plastic bags, broken glass and barbed wire to kill your foes, bloody and brutal, definitely not for kids. However the game can be quite difficult in places and sometimes stealth isnt an option, in which hand to hand combat must be used, however it isn't very good.Manhunt shouldn't be missed, but it shouldn't be anything more than a time filler.

GOOD BUT NOT UP TO THE HYPE.
I really enjoyed this game but have to admit that years of wondering what all the fuss was about, when they tried to ban Manhunt was the main reason I did. I was slightly let down as it is quite violent but I have seen and played worse. It's an enjoyable game but not one you will play religiously.

EXCELLANT
If they ever decide to make a film of this ( JASON STATHOM ) has to be, I think ROCKSTAR probably had him in mind when creating CASH. Concept is straight forward, You as Cash have to make your way through many different a zones crawling with Gang members all intent on killing you, using certain objects that become available to neutralize the enemy in ever increasing brutality. Worth every penny

After the first thrill there's..nothing
You play James Earl Cash. You're a convict and sentenced to death. But instead of an lethal injection you received some kind of narcotic. However, you wake up in a dirty hall and a voice tells you that you have to play the main role in a snuff movie.Your task: Do whatever you're told - survive - find a way out of the trap you're in.Many people (even the text on the back of the DVD case) say that your maintask is to "stay alive". That's simply not true in any way. Most of the time in the game it goes like this "Kill all enemies in this area. When you're finished the gate to the next area will be opened." The first half of the game consist out of that - nothing more. You get a few minor tasks in these missions, like for example saving people by not being spotted by the enemy, or by guiding certain people threw one of the areas and prevent that they get spotted or killed, but in the end it's always the same. You get certain weapons or stuff like plastic bags, glass sharps, knifes, axes, machetes, guns, tranquliser guns and so on. Most of the time you have to use these weapons in order to sneak up to your enemy and kill it. This triggers a cutscene in which you can see how the protagonist kills his victim (using the machete for example will result in the protagonist slashing it into the hips of the enemy and cutting its head off. The player can throw the head afterwards in order to get the other enemy's attention). You can also get more violent sequences by sneaking up to the enemy longer. At the beginning this is optional, but in one of the levels you'll be forced to trigger the most violent sequence, otherwise your enemies will keep on respawning all the time. So, the main aspect of the game is sneaking and stalking. But it's als possible to use guns and to fight one-on-one. But you won't do it often, since it's useless. Especially later on when the enemies become stronger you barely have a chance to escape a one-on-one battle. The battle-system sucks and the controls are horrible and clumsy. It's the same with the aiming system when you're in a gun fight (and certain levels force you to use ONLY guns) - the game has a auto-aim function. That's nice because the free aiming in the game sucks the most. Nevertheless, imagine this situation: Two enemies stand in front of you (you're hiding in the shadows and can't bee seen). Between both of them is a gasoline can which explodes if you shoot it. Would be a good idea to do so, right? Forget about it. The auto-aim function forces you to aim at one of the enemies. You'll have to deal with them one by one.The most annoying thing about the game is how damn boring it becomes. After you've finished the 9th of 20 stages you start realising that the game will offer nothing more. It's always the same. You see an enemy, you make some noise, the enemy comes in order to look for you, you hide in the shadows, the enemy turns you it's back, and you slaughter it down. Repeat. In some stages you have to use guns, which is boring as well. Always the same, no tactic, no fun.But the games does also have some positive aspects like for example the fantastic voice acting of the certain characters or the (at the beginning) real refreshing and sinister story.Closing comment: The game is too long, because although there are some story twists the game mechanics offer nothing new. You always do the same, only the weapons change. The controls are horrible and the difficulty combined with the saving system is sometimes just annoying. Some parts of the game are easy as hell, other parts are so damn hard and frustrating that you want to eat your controller.I guess if the game wasn't that violent and disturbing, noone would have payed attention. And I guess it's the same with Manhunt 2 which is now about to come out.Violence is not a part of the atmosphere, it's part of how the game is supposed to work at all - and that's a rather sad fact. And by the way: this is no horror game at all.
