Bonusmaterial: Zum ersten Mal HD-Remastered auf Blu-ray Disc; Trailer; Bildergalerie; Review: 60's classic film - Love this film, great cast Peter Ustinov, Maximillian Schell, Robert Morley. Good old fashioned museum heist no elaborate alarms or gun toting action. Love the wrestlers covered in oil. Some funny moments and great characters from the actors. Review: This Dutch IMPORT version does have subtitles! - Exelent classic movie. This IMPORT version Region 2 from The Netherlands does have Subtitles in Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish ,Swedish, Greek and Subs for Hoh in English and German. The language on the backside(text) of the cover is in Dutch an French. As a separate comment NOT for this dvd. : I stil do not understand why desertcart does not enforce compulsory correct mention of subtitle(s) and Region when Dvd's or BluRay' s are offered for sale. Those are some of the most important things for a buyer to known about those items. It is one of the basics on wich a buyer decides if it's a usefull or useless item for him. I also do not understand why some dvd-producers bring out dvd's or Blu Ray's in just 1 language without any subs or with just subs in the same language. (For instance French language and French subs or Spanish language and Castellano subs.) Those idiot-dvd-producers ignore the fact that many foreigners might have also bought their product if they would have the brains to considder including subs in other languages!

If like me you are in that fortunate position
The previous reviewer has already highted the main problem with this release - the fact that it is region A locked, and therefore witll not be playable on Blu-ray players in the UK unless they have been modified to be multi-region. If like me you are in that fortunate position, then it is a major advance on the non-anamorphic DVD version and well worth getting. Although not benefiting from restoration, the pirture quality is pretty good, with no apparent fading and only slight speckling to indicate that it isn't taken from a negative. The highight of the film, as in Dassin's earlier film Rififi, is the heist itself - the four star rating reflects the fact that, for me the rest of the film doesn't reach this standard.

... by other review saying this Blu Ray wasn't any better than the standard DVD
Almost put off by other review saying this Blu Ray wasn't any better than the standard DVD...Well I can tell you it is excellent...being an ex Cinema Projectionist of the sixties, I ran this film for two weeks so know what the 35mm print was like. Yes, there are scratches and marks, due to the limited techniques in those days, but the Blu Ray is an exact copy of those prints. The DVD was Letterbox 1:85-1 so lost a great deal of quality...the Blu ray is stunning! It is Region 'A' so needs a multi region Blu Ray player in this country...haven't got one...then go out and buy one fast! A pioneer film by the great Jules Dassin...lots of others have copied this ...ie Mission Impossible, Italion Job...but never as good. Peter Ustinov giving a pre Arfur Daley performance, deserving an academy award. One of my favourite movies...a joy!

3 stars.
Topkapi, very much of its time, and rather dated now. Peter Ustinov steals the show with his performance, and rightly won an Oscar. The film is a crime caper to steal an ancient jewel dagger in Istanbul. The actual crime is entertaining and exciting to watch, and the escape is classic. "A little bird told me."

Sehenswert! Unterhaltung vom Besten!

Enchanting, worldly film
"Topkapi" is one of the great classic films of the 1960s, with a top-notch international cast. Melina Mercouri & Maximilian Schell are professional burglars who decide to use a circle of amateurs to rob the Topkapi Palace of Istanbul of a sultan's emerald-studded dagger. Robert Morley will help them with his electronic expertise, and an exuberantly comical Akim Tamiroff is their flamboyant cook. However, Peter Ustinov steals the film as Arthur Simpson, "a carbuncle on the behind of humanity." Ostensibly their chauffeur, Ustinov's character becomes enmeshed in the robbery, with fascinating results. This is 1963, so Crime does not Pay. But these characters are so engaging that one *almost* hopes they will choose another target -- one less well guarded than the Topkapi Palace!
