This device has a sturdy mechanism inside and at first seems difficult to turn the knob right out of the package. But like all kitchen appliances, you have to rinse it in warm soapy water. You can take it apart (squeeze buttons on the sides) and take out the blades. Let it dry completely and viola it's easier to turn in both directions (probably can use little veg oil too, if needed). For the price, the blades are stainless steel and solid. You have to make sure the cups on each end are locked in place. And yes you have to turn the knob at the edge of the counter as you push down, so what. After use, I wouldn't put it in the dishwasher, take it apart and rinse with warm soapy water again and let it dry. You only have to turn the knob a few times each way to break up whole walnuts. Not that big of a deal. It does a nice job. This is coming from someone older with weak hands. However, I wouldn't use it for everything. Avoid really hard nuts and use it for mostly dry small foods (meat?, I don't think so). Get an electric device if you have no strength at all. Good luck.

Nuts grind well but container top comes off when ypur grinding. Doesn't lock in place and hard to grip while grinding. Needs a rubber base so it doesn't slide and a locking top otherwise it would get 5 stars. Easy to clean

Works very well on Walnuts, Macadamian Nuts. Works on Almonds but is really hard cranking. Even with hard Almonds did not damage the grinding tines.Top container had a tendency to come undone when cranking fast. Just used small strip of strapping tape and cured the problem completely.

First time I used this it worked well. I dismantled it and hand washed it & dried it. Went to put it back together and it's as if the tumbler part just broke. All the blades were all out of order & and the metal blade frame was now in two pieces. It was a mess and our of caution I didn't want to cut myself & but no matter what I did to try to put it back together, but I it wouldn't go. DON'T BUY THIS!

This grinder actually works both directions, so if you want a finer nut grind, just flip it over and grind again. One minor nit is that the ends can come loose as you are grinding if you are grinding something that is a bit hard to grind.

I bought this to grind up nuts when I make a nut roll for my Granddaughter with Celiac disease . Great for grinding small amounts for cookie & cake recipes.

It’s a good product except for the handle when you turn it hits the counter so you have to use it on the edge of the counter so you can turn it. Other than that it’s OK.
