The Very Best of Elvis Costello

Lots of Music
This large collection of Elvis Costello hits (42 in all) is very inviting in that it digs a little deeper than the 22-song predecessor 'Best Of' compilation from 1994. In this set, there are a number of tracks that aren't truly radio-friendly, but are still worthwhile selections, such as BIG TEARS, RIOT ACT, SULKY GIRL, and arguably LIPSTICK VOGUE. I like this approach that ultimately expands the boundaries a little, and gives the listener a broad array of his music. Of course, there are stellar tracks like VERONICA that can't be found on the 1994 release. Overall, this is a very comprehensive collection that is sure to please even the most casual Costello fan.

Spot On
If you had enjoyed Elvis Costello for all these years but had never had the motivation to purchase a single CD, here's your chance to have a complete collection of hits in a single swoop. No filler or dead tracks, every song is essential Costello. If you're into comparisons, this would be the Elvis version of Hot Rocks. As a kicker, you get the only known recording of 'She' (the best thing to come out of Notting Hill). Trust me, I looked and I looked and this is it, nowhere else. Rockers, ballads, early stuff (he was never really 'punk' - just pissed) - just a great single purchase.

Greatest hits that's worth it.
Has anyone ever counted how many greatest hits Elvis Costello has from over his entire career? I can't keep track. However, this is as solid a one as I can find. The fewest weak songs. I the biggest fan of his first 4 albums and I find a smattering of hits from his albums since. 'She' from the film Notting Hill is spectacular. If that's on here then get it for sure. Lotsa songs and if yer gonna get a greatest hits of his this seems to be the best one. May God bless Mr. Costello.

Well done 'Greatest Hits' package. The music grows on you, too.
Good, comprehensive collection- as with the Clash's "Hits Back" set, a really good selection for someone who likes Costello, but is not a die-hard fan. If you can live with a used copy, there should be reasonably priced copies available.

Fine introduction to the McManus canon
Sure I would have had some different songs in here (Deep, Dark Truthful Mirror, All Grown Up) and taken a few out (Tokyo Storm Warning) but then who wouldn't? All in all a decent (and decent-priced-for-what-you-get) collection of songs that may or may not act as a catalyst for the purchase of other EC albums.A fine intro for anyone unlucky enough not to have heard much of Elvis Costello.

Great overview of Elvis Costello in his Prime
Really wasn't a fan, but I was curious, and it is a great Elvis Costello primer. The price was v/g. Condition was as advertised.

Excellent, even for the passing Costello fan
I was never a big Costello fan but I enjoyed a few songs of his. This compilation has enough "hits" to have kept me listening while I learned to appreciate his the lesser known songs. Now some of those are my favorite. There are a variety of songs with social, relationship, and political themes and all of them have their merits. This is definitely something everyone should have in their music collection.
