How long will a dog feel the effects of the spray after initial spraying?

My husband and I and our two large dogs were attacked today by two dogs that pushed through a fence. I emptied my mace and they didn’t stop right away but be careful, I got my dog a little and I got it from in the air and coughed for over an hour and still don’t feel great. I am all beat up from being knocked down but it didn’t stop them even when in my face and me spraying but they did run off after my dog helped protect us. I honestly couldn’t tell you if it was my spray, my dog protecting all of us or my husband kicking. It’s dogs that made them stop.

My mother is looking for a spray that doesn't contain the usual red or orange dyes in it. Is this with or without dye?

I used this one up but as I remember it was red and did have those dyes. I am not using one without the dyes and does not use pepper but citronella which I find every bit as effective without that nasty red pepper dye and other side effect.
