Are all the internal parts steel, or are there internal parts that are from plastic or aluminum?

No plastic other than the external trim you can see. All steel inside.

Do you store it with the basket and pump inside or only put them in when you use ir

When it has its daily clean out, I just put everything back inside the empty pot,, but beware to switch off the socket at the wall (or unplug it) or else it will heat up and burn out the pot - I did this once and fortunately was within range to hear it sizzling. I have had mine now for several years and it is still going strong.

Inside couldn't get the metal thing that goes through the filter to secure and it didn't produce coffee

Fill perc. with desired amount of water. Add desired amount of coffee to filter body. Insert water tube through filter body and replace cap -- you cannot secure this ! Holding top end of water tube protruding from filter, locate bottom end in cavity in perc. base. Replace top on perc. remember this unit is spring loaded. O.K. TO GO.

is the knob on the lid made of glass? Is the lid also stainless steel? I do not want steam or boiling water to come in contact with plastic.

The knob is made from a high density clear plastic it is not glass or stainless steel.Since purchase I have found the item very good and reliable. It certainly brews quite quickly and keeps the brew warmer than my previous SONA. Cannot fault.Hopes this helps and that you will enjoy your coffee from this percolator RegardsBryn
