Claire Bowman Soft Gold Cake Lace Mix 500g

Just used this product for the first time with the Claire Bowman "Sweet Hearts" lace mat and it is absolutely fantastic !!The finished result is excellent, a beautiful stunning piece of gold lace which is very flexible and will look fantastic on the Golden Wedding cake I will be making. You can make several pieces of lace in advance as apparently it keeps flexible for months wrapped in greaseproof paper. I have made 5 mats up to now and there is plenty of cake lace mix left to do more if requiredThis soft gold lace mix is already mixed for use immediately.I did find I had to bake for 12 minutes on 80c and not 8 -10 minutes as per instructions, but every oven is different. If not quite ready just pop it back in oven for a couple more minutes. I found 12 minutes perfect. The lace came out of the lace mat like a dream and I have now stored them for when I require them. I would DEFINATELY recommend this product to anyone. Even novice bakers like myself!

I've had some technical issues with the gold lace too! I wasted a lot but now think I'm finally getting somewhere (hope I'm not speaking too soon!) I applied a layer to the lace mat and then about 2 hours later applied another layer and let it air dry. I have kept it in a kitchen cupboard on a flat surface (shelf). My first strip using this method went went after many failures of other methods - I let it dry over night. I did find while releasing the lace a tiny patch of the lace was still wet therefor began to rip so I put it down left it on my kitchen work top to air dry a little more (another 2-3 hours) and then took it out and it was fine. Although I held the lace mat in front of me in the air and very carefully slowly and gently kept releasing the mat from the lace, letting it fall backwards onto my hand. A shame it's not as easy to work with as white lace because it is absolutely beautiful! Good luck everyone!!

Sent for this product a while ago, and have just finished a wedding cake using the cake lace mix. It was absolutely great, easy to use and looks stunning, everyone was impressed with it, thank you

I love this but can't use it. I've used this brand for the white lace and had some stunning results. So I bought the gold. There's got to be a different technique that I just can't figure. I oven dried it and it totally shrunk and crumbled. I air dried it warm for several hours, it shrunk and crumbled. I've air dried in a cool place over a few days, still broke away. I've tried using several coats and drying between but it snaps and break... The only way I could get it out of the mould in more or less one piece was to dry it till neatly done and then put the normal elastic white lace over. But the gold still flaked and looked terrible. I have seen it on cakes so it must be possible to use it well... But it's too expensive to keep using to no effect. I've already wasted a half 500g tub and not got a single usable gold lace piece. Wish I knew how.

Expensive but a little goes a long way so ultimately good value - the colour is beuatiful

Love this product. It take a little practice to get the right consistency when baking in the oven. I used it recently for my daughters wedding cake. To add character I dusted areas of the cake lace with edible dust powder giving it a gold vintage look.
