Nice look, good value
Good solid fixture, easy install (new construction), nice simple look. I painted the grill the flat wall color, looks very clean. using 1W LED bulbs to reduce heat build-up. Installed 3 fixtures on 1 flight of stairs and got very good coverage - light dispersion. Good bang for the buck, if you're looking at this you have probably seen recessed light fixtures going for $100 plus that don't look any nicer.

We leave them on 24/7 and they are the PERFECT amount of light
I was looking for some similar lights to the ones I had installed on my stairs 30 years ago! These were to put down the stairs to my basement where I finished an area for my mom. We leave them on 24/7 and they are the PERFECT amount of light, and very attractive! We have them down 14 stairs. I only wanted 3, but hey ... the electrician wired 4, so there ya have it! And the price ...FAR LESS than local hardware stores (which were making it cost-prohibitive)! SO HAPPY I found these! THANKS! =)

Someone used, returned, repackaged, and sold it.
Seller sent 1 new and 1 used step light. The knock out was removed, wires twisted, retaining screw and pieces of plaster in the box, louvered cover is bent too. Don't have time to return the product since inspection was needed and drywallers are hanging board. Hope Seller gives me a new cover in time for finish.

OK for Retrofit too
I used this for a basement stair light retrofit, and wired it to a lamp cord to try different heights first. The spacing of the tabs isn't very useful for standard framing, I bent them flat and drilled holes on the bottom and right side of the metal box to connect to bottom wall plate/wall stud. A right angle drill is really handy for putting the screws in.I used a switch to turn it off/on even though the bulb I'm using is only 4W. This particular installation did not require any repainting, and only cutting holes for a switch, and wall light. The cut out in the sheetrock requires a bit of adjustment to allow for the ground screw which sticks out, and for "rotating" the box into the opening to avoid the romex/clamp assembly which also sticks out a bit.If you have a retro fit with only a stud on one side, the other side can be a 1-1/2" square piece of wood clamped to the back of the cut out and then held by sheet rocks screws, giving a support at each end.. Make the piece of wood about 3 inches longer than the cut out dimension so there is overlap each end, and hold in place with a G clamp while putting in the sheetrock screws. One thing I like about this unit for retrofitting versus a standard switch box size LED unit, is that the cut out is much larger-you can get your hand through it to fish for the cable, and different light levels can be used within the 25W max power limit using CFL or LED bulbs. It looks good, works, and the cover is easily removed for changing the light bulb without the use of tools.

Just as advertised
As a retired electrical contractor, I'd say this was a very basic step light for an appropriate price. My intention was to install it in a concrete wall, which it is not specifically designed for. By filling the various small holes in the box so as to keep water from the fully grouted wall from running in during grouting, it fit quite well into a 6 x 8 x 16 block cavity (with the appropriate amount of block sawed out, of course) and is now fully grouted in flush to the stuccoed wall. We will repaint the cover with hammered copper finish, use a CFL bulb, and wind up with a richer looking energy efficient step light for a modest price.

These work great - are easy to install - and their is no light leakage between the grill and the wall if you install the foam edging around the frame.

Simple and economical.
This was perfect for what I needed. Inexpensive, uses a standard house bulb. Not the most designer unit, but works well.

Step lights are too big for the job
Think about it, item is too big and I didn't realize it. I tried to cancel the order before it was shipped and I could not do it, don't understand why.Quality is OK if you want a big step light fixture.
